Abstract/Summary:
Based on the merits and limitations of tuned rotary mass damper(TRMD)and single-side pounding tuned mass damper(SS-PTMD),a novel energy dissipating device dubbed singleside pounding tuned rotary mass damper(SS-PTRMD)is proposed in this thesis.The proposed SS-PTRMD consists of a spherical pounding mass,an arc-shaped track and a boundary covered with viscoelastic materials layer.The mass can not only pound on the viscoelastic materials layer,but also generate friction with the track during the relative motion to dissipating energy.The investigations regarding to the dynamic characteristics,the optimum parametric discussion and vibration control performance of the SS-PTRMD were conducted through theoretical and experimental study.The primary works in this paper are summarized as follows:(1)An overview related to tuned mass damper(TMD),tuned rotary mass damper(TRMD)and single-side pounding tuned mass damper(SS-PTMD)was presented.Furthermore,a novel single-side pounding tuned rotary mass damper(SS-PTRMD)was proposed.(2)Based on the variational method with Lagrange,the equation of motion of SS-PTRMD is derived.Moreover,the expressions of its natural frequency and equivalent damping ratio was obtained.(3)The equation of motion of a single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF)structure with the SSPTRMD,was established,where the pounding force was expressed by the model considering the surface residual deformation of viscoelastic materials.Also,the minimizing the maximum of the dynamic amplification factor was selected as the objective function to investigate the optimal parameters design of the SS-PTRMD.(4)To assess the vibration control performance of the SS-PTRMD,responses of a structure-SS-PTRMD system were obtained by the numerical simulation.The tuned and detuned SS-PTRMD were account for cases that were free vibration,harmonic excitation and seismic excitation.Moreover,the robustness of the SS-PTRMD are evaluated.(5)To further verify the control performance of the SS-PTRMD,a single-story frame was designed and manufactured to model the SDOF structures.Then,a series experiments including the free vibration,the harmonic excitation and the shake table test,were carried out under the identical scenarios in simulations,respectively.
