The northern fishing and hunting ethnic groups mainly refer to the Oroqen,Ewenki,Daur, and Hezhe. These four ethnic groups have created unique material and cultural landscapes through generations of fishing and hunting survival in the Greater Khingan Mountains region. With the settlement of these fishing and hunting peoples, traditional fishing and hunting landscape imagery is facing the challenge of disappearing. Therefore, exploring and inheriting fishing and hunting landscape imagery is of great significance for cultural heritage and rural revitalization in fishing and hunting areas.Oral folk songs about fishing and hunting serve as a means of collective memory transmission for landscape imagery. The improvisational nature of these songs as well as their generational transmission also make them an authentic record of the emotional connection that fishing and hunting peoples have with their landscapes.Given that these peoples have language but no writing system, coupled with severe cultural loss, analyzing the lyrics text within these songs is a practical way to study fishing and hunting landscape imagery beyond spatialtemporal limitations compared to traditional research methods like questionnaires or interviews. This paper selects several hundred surviving folk songs about fishing and hunting, uses text mining research methods to quantitatively analyze unstructured lyrics text in these songs, extracts landscape cognition information from them, combines literature research with field surveys, completes a survey on the construction of fishing and hunting landscape imagery, its status quo,as well as proposing strategies for its continuation.Firstly, relevant theories on landscape imagery are organized to construct a basic framework for fishing and hunting landscape imagery.Based on Pierce’s semiotics theory, this paper demonstrates the feasibility of research by constructing a research framework. At the same time,an overview of fishing and hunting ethnic groups is provided to lay a foundation for correctly understanding song lyrics content.Secondly,KH coder text mining software is used to quantitatively analyze overall lyrics’ perceived characteristics of landscape imagery as well as different ethnic group’s perceived characteristics. The analysis also includes types of landscape images found in lyrics as well as emotional tendencies expressed in lyrics.Thirdly, based on mining perceived content within song lyrics about landscapes image elements;historical literature records are compared with field surveys conducted to explore possible connections between past realities surrounding these images while creating new interpretations.Fishing-hunting-landscape image elements are interpreted from two dimensions: natural scenery image elements versus humanistic scenery image elements;summarizing the spatial structures of four types of fishing and hunting landscape imagery: mountain forest game hunting, hill tundra domesticated reindeer, river fishing, and plains pastoral landscapes.Lastly, based on field surveys and semi-structured interviews, research investigates the status quo for the continuation of fishing and hunting landscape imagery in both material space and cultural cognition. The paper concludes by proposing recommendations for protecting and developing fishing and hunting landscape imagery as well as suggesting strategies for continued expression through design.
