This research aims to apply photo-luminescent material in the concrete pavement for the improvement of night visibility on the access roads without street lightings.By mixing the Strontium-Aluminate and glass powder with concrete,we obtained an innovative luminescent material for concrete pavement.Effects of elemental composition,purity,and morphological structure of each ingredient are studied to evaluate the compressive strength,the glowing property,and the wear&tear mechanical properties as a concrete pavement in access roads.Firstly,X-Ray Fluorescence(XRF),X-Ray Diffraction(XRD),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),and compressive strength tests are done to investigate and assess the health and safety hazard and structural integrity of the Strontium-Aluminate and glass powder.Findings suggest that Strontium-Aluminate and glass powder can be safely mixed in concrete without the risk of causing harm to road users and the environment.Secondly,a strip of concrete blocks is set up across the road for the field testing of visual observation of glow.The glow of the strip in the road will last for 6-8 hours before its lumen intensity becomes less than 1 lux.We also performed experiments to demonstrate that concrete pavement with Strontium-Aluminate and glass powders.The result shows acceptable surface wear&tear ability for access roads and only a slight decrease in the compressive strength.We also show that the compressive strength of the luminescent concrete pavement satisfies the minimum requirement of ASTM C-150.This research proposed an innovative luminescent concrete for application in road pavement by additional a mixture of Strontium-Aluminate and glass powders.The findings will help future studies related to the utilization of luminescent materials in pavements for a sustainable and renewable glow.
