| China’s graphite mines have been mined for many years and have huge tailings pond stocks,which raise dust in the dry season and can collapse in the rainy season,posing a serious threat to the natural environment.Using graphite tailings as civil engineering materials can not only reduce the environmental pressure of graphite production,but also increase the supply ways of engineering materials.In response to the huge stockpile of graphite tailings in Jixi,Heilongjiang Province,this paper proposes the use of cementstabilized graphite tailings as road construction fill material,and a series of indoor experimental studies were carried out on the road strength of cement-stabilized graphite tailings.Firstly,particle size analysis and compaction tests were carried out on graphite tailings samples taken from Jixi to investigate the compaction characteristics of the raw material,and the proportioning design of cement-stabilized graphite tailings was carried out based on inorganic mix stabilization material specifications and literature.Subsequently,specimens with different cement admixtures and different moisture contents were fabricated and 7 d unconfined compressive strength tests were carried out to analyses the strength influencing factors.Freeze-thaw cycling tests on cementstabilized graphite tailings were carried out to determine the strength of the specimens after freeze-thawing,to investigate the freeze-thaw characteristics of the specimen surfaces,freeze-thaw mass loss and freeze-thaw strength loss,and to reveal the microscopic freeze-thaw damage characteristics of cement-stabilized graphite tailings using optical microscopy,taking into account the seasonal temperature variations in the northeast region.Finally,a 24-hour water immersion test was carried out on the specimens to investigate the water stability of cement-stabilized graphite tailings and the effect of cement blending and water content on the water stability.This paper demonstrates the feasibility of cement-stabilized graphite tailings for road use from the perspective of material strength,and some preliminary empirical conclusions are obtained based on the results of a series of tests.The experimental data and research conclusions can provide a reference for the engineering application of cement-stabilized graphite tailings,which can help promote the application of graphite tailings in civil engineering and reduce the inventory pressure of graphite producers. |
