El Lissitzky-From PROUN To Architectural Space

Based on the research of " El Lissitzky’s PROUN abstract painting and its essence and connotation",this paper expounds the important influence of El Lissitzky’s PROUN on modern art and modernist architecture through the contacts and exchanges between El Lissitzky and Moholy·Nagy and Bauhaus,and with such modernist giants as van Duesberg and le Corbusier.By expounding the translation of El Lissitzky’s abstract artistic language to the principles of modernism architectural form,design methods and aesthetic paradigm,this paper re examines the close relationship between Russian supremacy,constructivism,modernism and contemporary avant-garde architecture,and hopes that through the study of PROUN,it will inspire the contemporary architectural design methods.El Lissitzky participated in both the architectural revolution in the Soviet Union and the architectural revolution in Western Europe.He opened up a new path for the innovation of architectural forms.He was an important person and object at the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century,just as Kashmir Malevich and Vladimir Tatlin.He not only influenced the industrial production design of Bauhaus,but also influenced the spatial language and architectural thought of modern architectural designers such as Le Corbusier,Gropius,Mies van der Rohe,and the contemporary design architect Zaha Hadid was the inheritor of his PROUN.However,for a long time,due to the political environment of the Soviet Union at that time,the number of works built by El Lissitzky was scarce,and the exhibitions held by El Lissitzky were not well preserved due to the technical conditions at that time.Most of the works left were his graphic design and book works.Therefore,the importance of El Lissitzky in architecture was seriously underestimated,and his research was mostly focused on his graphic design works,However,there is insufficient research on the essence and connotation of El Lissitzky’s PROUN and the ways in which PROUN has affected Bauhaus and even contemporary architects,and the summary of El Lissitzky’s architectural thought and theory.This study is devoted to answering the above questions.By translating the articles written by El Lissitzky,this paper has carried out extensive collection,collation,in-depth research and analysis of historical data,reinterpreted the content and essence of El Lissitzky‘s PROUN theory,opened its eyes from a single architectural field to the whole origin stage of modern art,and discussed the translation of El Lissitzky’s image language into the design principles,design methods,design strategies and aesthetic paradigm of architectural space,Reexamine the relationship between painting and architectural design.This paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the background of the article,the purpose and significance of the research and the research status at home and abroad,so as to put forward the research questions and clarify the research content.The second chapter reveals the social environment background of PROUN’s birth-the great challenges brought by social change to society and technology at the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century.The least restricted painting art responded to these challenges by carrying out a series of exploration and revolution.Seeing that art was gradually moving towards an isolated abyss,El Lissitzky decided to lead this huge artistic force to the post-war reconstruction of the Soviet Union.The third chapter interprets El Lissitzky‘s PROUN theory in detail,points out that PROUN ’s connotation and essence are the creation method and new aesthetic paradigm of "transforming abstract painting language into physical space" proposed by El Lissitzky in order to achieve the goal of "leading painting art to production",and analyzes and expounds the potential background factors and rational personal thinking behind his theory in detail.The fourth chapter lists El Lissitzky‘s thoughts and ideas on the new architectural types of his own country,and through the avant-garde architectural examples of the Soviet Union in the 20 th century Exploration of new architectural types in Вхутемас and Yakov Chernikhov to discusses how El Lissitzky and PROUN influenced the Soviet architecture extensively through Вхутемас,the avant-garde art school of the Soviet Union.The first part of Chapter V demonstrates how El Lissitzky‘s PROUN influenced the European modern industrial design art through Moholy·Nagy,van Duesberg and Bauhaus through the industrial production of Bauhaus and the Dutch style school;the second part through Le Corbusier’s architectural theory and Zaha Hardy Germany’s architectural space,how to complete architectural design through PROUN,and how architects translate from abstract painting to architectural space.Finally,the conclusion part summarizes the great influence of El Lissitzky‘s PROUN on modern art and architectural design,and briefly analyzes the current situation of architecture in China to illustrate that PROUN still has important guiding significance for architectural design in China.
