In this paper,the experimental study and numerical simulation of the penetration against a new ceramic composite armor anti-56 type 14.5mm armor-piercing incendiary(API)are carried out.The numerical simulation method is used to deeply study the anti-penetration performance of the weak position of the new structural ceramic composite armor.The main work results are as below:(1)Research on anti-penetration test of new structural ceramic composite armor.New structural ceramic composite target plates are designed and fabricated for penetration test.The location of the impact point,the damage form of the panel,the back panel and the bottom panel,and the failure of the composite panel are recorded.The results show that:(1)When the thickness of the panel ceramic is 20mm,the weakest position can effectively protect the projectile from penetration.(2)When hitting the eccentric zone or the edge zone,the target can play the role of“dynamic yaw”.(3)Al2O3ceramics had better resistance to multiple strikes than Si C ceramics.(2)Research on numerical simulation method for anti-penetration of new ceramic composite armor.Through the establishment of the projectile model,the definition of the reasonable material model,and the employment of appropriate algorithms,penetration examples at the typical locations in the penetration test are simulated.Compare the test image with the simulated image and the damage parameters.The results show that the simulated damage of the target is in good agreement with the results of the penetration test,and the simulation method is effective,which provides an effective method for subsequent research.(3)Research on anti-penetration performance of new ceramic composite armor.The numerical simulation method is used to restore the penetration process,revealing the anti-ballistic mechanism,and analyzing the effects of thickness matching,impact point position and unit size and shape on the penetration ability.The results show that:(1)The basic process of the projectile is:ceramic abrasives the projectile,ceramic cone expands action surface;PE back plate consumes kinetic energy of projectile through fiber tensile deformation;aluminum back plate consumes kinetic energy through movement and deformation;composite back plate yaws the projectile through rotation and the aluminum base plate consumes kinetic energy through deformation.(2)When the composite panel unit adopts hexagon,the protection ability at the weakest position is better than that of the quadrilateral unit.The optimal side length of hexagon is 50mm,and quadrilateral is 90mm.(3)When using composite base plate,thickness ratio of PE board and 2A12 aluminum board should be close to 0.65.
