Marxist Political Economy Analysis Of The Global Ecological Crisis And Its Governance

Throughout the development of human society,the extent of human exploitation of the natural world has increased with the increase of social productivity.Meanwhile the small-scale and localized ecological problems in a slight degree have developed into the large-scale and global ecological crisis in a severe degree.At present,the global ecological crisis is highlighted by climate change,loss of biodiversity and environmental pollution,and the situation is extremely serious.Against the backdrop of the serious global ecological crisis,mankind has become increasingly aware of the importance of global ecological governance.However,at a time when the world is facing unprecedented changes,and the international community is overlapped with unstable,uncertain and complex factors,global ecological governance,as an important part of international cooperation,has gradually deviated from its original purpose of solving the ecological crisis and promoting sustainable development,but has gradually capitalized and politicized,becoming a method for some capitalist developed countries to implement the logic of capital and restrict the development of other countries.Although the global ecological governance is continuing to advance,it is facing the problems of divergent ideas,lack of subjects and disorder,which hinders the resolution of the global ecological crisis.The increasingly complex and serious global ecological crisis and its governance dilemma have become a major theoretical and practical problem faced by the whole world.As the capitalist nature of the ecological crisis and its governance dilemma is gradually exposed,the issue has gradually entered the field of Marxist political economy.Using Marxist political economy to explore the root causes of the global ecological crisis and its governance dilemma,we can find that: capitalist social reproduction,with surplus value as its sole concern,is the main cause of the global ecological crisis;capitalist global expansion and the ensuing eco-imperialism,with the profit-seeking or multiplication of capital as its fundamental orientation,is the motive for the global spread of the ecological crisis;the capitalist political system and ideology,whose ultimate aim is to safeguard the interests of the bourgeoisie,is an important cause of the predicament of ecological governance.The combined result of these three factors is that the global ecological crisis has intensified and is difficult to resolve through effective means.In brief,we can see that the capitalist system,which is naturally exploitative,oppressive and profit-seeking,and which dominates all the actions of capital,is the root cause of these all actions.However,changing the capitalist system and moving towards communism is a long and difficult process.Under the background that capitalism will still exist for a long time,the contradictions between capitalism and ecology,and between economic development and ecological governance,must be alleviated from realistic paths.In addition to deciphering and overcoming the limitations and defects of unsustainable capitalism from four levels: conceptual guidance-establishing Marxist ecological and economic thinking;responsibility regulation-advocating common but differentiated responsibility for governance;development model-practising green and low-carbon development;and international cooperation-building an international cooperation pattern for ecological governance,it is also necessary to fully demonstrate China’s role as a positive participant,outstanding contributor and aspiring leader in global ecological governance.
