| The tiger head hat is originally a development and extension of the tiger culture in people’s lives,representing the good wishes of the elders to the next generation,and has a history of 2,000 years in China.Due to differences in geography,history and culture,customs and aesthetic concepts,the tiger’s head hat,which is based on the tiger,is a symbol of the tiger’s power,a symbol of a living tiger,a symbol of strong growth,and has the qualities of repelling evil and avoiding disaster and the transmission of motherly love.The tiger’s head hat is complex to make,and has to be cut,pasted,embroidered,painted and wrapped in a number of processes.Nowadays,most of the craftsmen who master this skill are over sixty years old,and fewer young people are willing to learn this craft,and after the reform and opening up,the clothing style is gradually westernised,and the tiger head hat is no longer respected by people,so the tiger head hat gradually goes into decline from its heyday.In recent years,due to the prevalence of the "national tide" culture,the folk tiger head hat as China’s traditional folk costume,its strong artistic expression,rich patterns,vivid images,colour contrast,the expression of the people’s pure thoughts and feelings and healthy aesthetic interest.The folk tiger head hat has significant "national trendy style" characteristics,in line with the concept of contemporary national trendy cultural design.This project takes the folk tiger head hat in Shanxi as the research object,using literature research method,image analysis method and digital design method,combining images and literature materials,and conducting research and literature review on the tiger head hat in Jinzhong,Jinnan and Jinbei regions of Shanxi.The research is based on the literature,books,images and objects,and the current distribution of tiger head hats in Shanxi,and summarises their artistic characteristics,cultural connotations and artistic values in terms of shape,colour and pattern.At the same time,the study and comparison of the shape,colouring,craft techniques and decorative features of folk tiger hats in the Jinzhong and Jinnan regions are carried out respectively.Finally,the study analyses and draws on existing examples of modern costume design using tiger head hats or tiger elements to explore design methods that are in line with modern aesthetics without losing the traditional core,and to apply the elements of Shanxi folk tiger head hats to the design of national fashion.The study concludes that the shapes and colours of the Shanxi folk tiger head hat are bold and vibrant,and the three forms of tiger head hat can be chosen according to the changing seasons.The motifs are divided into natural and geometric patterns,most of which are auspicious to ward off evil spirits and pray for peace,expressing the simple prayers of the local people for a good life and the love and expectations of the elders for the next generation.The study found that from the Qing to the Republic of China periods,the folk tiger head hats of the Jinan and Jinzhong regions all had highly recognisable form features in terms of modelling characteristics;there were no major differences in colouring and craft features,with more tiger head hats in the Jinan region with yellow and red backgrounds,and more tiger head hats in the Jinzhong region with black backgrounds,and a preference for mesh work at the eye of the tiger,which was related to the aesthetic preferences and customs of the local people during the specific period.In the trend of exploring national trend culture,the use of Shanxi folk tiger head hats in modern costume innovation design,on the one hand,promotes the excellent Chinese folk culture;on the other hand,the Shanxi folk tiger head hats present a different decorative and aesthetic nature from other regions,providing a new idea for modern costume design to transform design. |
