As a basic resource and carrier of agricultural production, cultivated land provides important functions of food production and ecosystem services for human survival and development. As the largest developing country in the world,China’s cultivated land accounts for only about 7% of the world’s total, yet it needs to feed approximately 1/5of the world’s population.Cultivated land plays an important role in ensuring national food security. However, rapid urbanization and the widespread use of pesticides, fertilizers, and other agricultural products have led to a decline in the quantity and quality of cultivated land in China, resulting in ecological damage and further increasing pressure on food security. Therefore, how to rationalize the use of cultivated land, improve the output of cultivated land use and reduce the negative impact on the cultivated land use environment, and promote the improvement of the level of cultivated land use eco-efficiency has become a key issue that needs to be solved. The main grain producing areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, which are important grain production areas in China, have superior environmental conditions for f cultivated land production. However, the carbon dioxide and pollution emissions caused by the use of cultivated land in this region have also produced many negative effects, and cultivated land ecological security issues have long been a bottleneck for agricultural development in this area.In summary,in the current context of China’s high attention to food security and promotion of green agriculture development, studying the cultivated land use eco-efficiency in the main grain production areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is of great significance.Based on this, this paper first constructs an eco-efficiency evaluation index system for cultivated land use based on relevant theories by combing existing research results at home and abroad, measures cultivated land use eco-efficiency through the SuperSBM model including unexpected output, and analyzes its trend characteristics.Secondly, the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of cultivated land use ecoefficiency in the study area are analyzed through the kernel density model and exploratory spatial data analysis method. Finally, based on the spatial correlation phenomenon of cultivated land use eco-efficiency in the study area, the spatial effects of driving factors of cultivated land eco-efficiency in the study area are decomposed through the spatial Durbin model and its partial differential decomposition method, and its spatial spillover effects are explored. The research conclusions indicate that:(1)In terms of temporal trends, the overall cultivated land use eco-efficiency in the region shows a fluctuating downward trend within the research time limit, and the cultivated land use eco-efficiency in various provinces presents a phenomenon of "three highs and two lows, one increase and four decreases",and the cultivated land use eco-efficiency of various cities and units presents an evolving feature of "shrinkage in the southwest and sinking in the central part" in spatial distribution in the research area.(2)In terms of spatial patterns, the empirical results of the kernel density model show that the cultivated land use eco-efficiency in the study area presents an evolving feature of first decreasing and then increasing, widening differences, and polarized development, and there is a certain degree of "club convergence" phenomenon. The empirical results of the exploratory spatial data analysis method show that there is positive spatial autocorrelation in the evolution of cultivated land eco-efficiency in the study area towards strong correlation, and it presents a clustering feature of "balanced expansion and nodal distribution" in geographical space.(3)In terms of driving factors, the cultivated land use eco-efficiency in the study area is positively influenced by the local PAPL and TF,negatively influenced by the MCI,IS,TL,and LFSA,and the influence of PS and FIL is not significant.(4)In terms of spillover effects, seven driving factor indicators, such as multiple cropping index, show positive spillover effects at different significant levels in promoting the improvement of cultivated land use eco-efficiency in peripheral areas, while the TL indicator shows negative spillover effects.Based on theoretical analysis and empirical results, this paper extracts policy recommendations such as optimizing the input-output structure of cultivated land utilization, giving play to the leading role of high-level cities, improving the internal and external conditions of cultivated land use,and establishing an agricultural linkage development mechanism,in order to provide a theoretical basis for the coordinated development of sustainable cultivated land use in the study area.
