Since the reform and opening up,China’s economic growth momentum is very rapid,but the attendant environmental problems have become increasingly serious.In the face of new problems and challenges arising from development,the report of the19 th National Congress clearly pointed out that a market-oriented green technology innovation system should be built.Enterprise is an important micro subject of green technology innovation,so it is particularly important to study the green technology innovation of enterprises.It is of great significance to discuss how to carry out green technology innovation of enterprises,whether for the transformation and upgrading of enterprises themselves or to promote high-quality economic development.Now that China’s economic development has entered a new normal,enterprises are required to pay enough attention to green technology innovation.The enterprises where overseas executives work will inevitably involve green technology innovation decisions.Therefore,will executives with overseas experience promote green technology innovation in domestic enterprises? What internal and external factors will affect the relationship between the two? These are the main issues that this paper hopes to explore.Based on this,this paper first takes the high-ranking team theory,branding theory and resource-based theory as the research basis,combs the research achievements of senior executives’ overseas experience and green technology innovation,and puts forward five research hypotheses of this paper.Then,a negative binomial regression model was constructed by selecting 9515 observations of A-share listed manufacturing enterprises from 2008 to 2019,and the data analysis software Stata14.0 was used to conduct statistical analysis on the samples to verify the hypothesis.Finally,the method of tendency score matching(PSM),tool variable method,substitution of explained variables,and 5% tail reduction were used to conduct robustness test,so as to further improve the reliability of the research results.Through empirical analysis,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)executives with overseas experience can promote green technology innovation of enterprises;(2)Financing constraints will negatively adjust the relationship between executives’ overseas experience and enterprises’ green technology innovation;(3)The promotion of executives’ overseas experience on green technology innovation is more significant in private enterprises than in state-owned enterprises;(4)The promotion of executives’ overseas experience on green technology innovation is stronger in areas with weak environmental regulations than in areas with strong environmental regulations;(5)The promotion effect of overseas experience of senior executives on green technology innovation of enterprises is stronger in regions with high marketization level than in regions with low marketization level.In theory,this study studies the problems of green technology innovation of enterprises from the micro level,and expands the research scope of the driving factors of green technology innovation of enterprises;Focusing on the overseas background of senior executives enriches the research on the overseas experience of senior executives;The overseas experience of senior executives is organically combined with green technology innovation to provide a new perspective for relevant research.In practical sense,it provides some reference for the implementation of China’s overseas talent introduction policy;Green transformation enterprises need to pay attention to the diversification and internationalization of the senior management team in the management selection and talent training;Due to the obvious advantages of overseas returnee executives in promoting the internationalization of enterprises,enterprises with green transformation can use overseas returnee executives to explore the international market.In general,the research conclusions of this paper have certain guiding significance for the government to better implement the overseas talent introduction policy,enterprises to optimize the configuration of senior management teams and achieve the harmonious development of economic and environmental protection.
