At present, the world is undergoing the transformation of the Digital Economy Industry 4.0.Specifically,in this era,new elements such as the digital economy have emerged, which are integrated with traditional production factors such as labor, capital, and land, promoting traditional industries to move towards intelligence while improving energy efficiency and promoting green development.Based on this, this article focuses on whether the digital economy has carbon emission reduction effects and explores the specific paths that the development of the digital economy may affect carbon emission reduction effects. The content of this article is mainly divided into two parts. The first part is mainly a theoretical analysis, which specifically outlines the concepts, connotations, and measurement methods of digital economy and carbon emissions; The influencing factors of related carbon emissions;Analysis of the impact of digital economy on carbon emissions;Analysis of the impact of the digital economy on innovation efficiency and energy consumption intensity,as well as its impact on carbon emissions; The spatial spillover effect of the digital economy on carbon emissions. The second part is the corresponding empirical analysis. This article calculates and analyzes the digital economy index and carbon emissions of 259 prefecture level cities in China from 2011 to 2019.Based on this,a spatial panel model is used to empirically test the impact of digital economy development on carbon emissions;Use the mesomeric effect model to test the mediation role of innovation efficiency and energy consumption intensity in it;Using spatial econometric models to analyze innovation efficiency and energy consumption intensity; Finally, conduct heterogeneity analysis.Based on relevant theoretical and empirical analysis, this article draws the following six conclusions: firstly, there is a characteristic of uneven development of the digital economy nationwide;Analysis by province and city reveals that although the digital economy in each region is in a positive growth trend, there are differences in the growth rate of the digital economy among different regions.Secondly, the overall carbon emissions in China are showing an increasing trend, with most prefecture level cities increasing their carbon emissions year by year. However, there are significant differences in the growth of carbon emissions in the eastern, central, and western regions.Thirdly, the development of the digital economy can effectively curb carbon dioxide emissions.Fourthly, the development of the digital economy will promote technological innovation and thereby suppress carbon emissions; The development of the digital economy can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by reducing energy consumption intensity.Fifth, the development of the digital economy has a significant spatial impact on carbon emissions, but its spatial spillover effects may vary under different spatial weight matrices.Sixth, through heterogeneity analysis,it was found that the development of digital economy in regions with relatively developed levels of digital economy has a inhibitory effect on carbon emissions. The development of digital economy in regions with larger populations has a carbon reduction effect.Based on the above analysis, this article mainly proposes the following suggestions:(1)adjust the industrial layout dynamically according to local conditions, and narrow the differences in the development of digital economy between regions;(2)Pay attention to infrastructure construction, accelerate the development of the digital economy, and help reduce carbon emissions;(3)Give full play to the mesomeric effect of technological innovation and energy consumption intensity;(4)Pay attention to the spatial spillover effect of the digital economy and leverage the radiation effect of the eastern region. |
