Research On Quality Evaluation Of Carbon Information Disclosure Of Listed Companies In Iron And Steel Industry

In recent years,with the increasingly high degree of industrialization in human production and life,the problem of environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious,and the trend of global warming is becoming more and more obvious.In the long run,such a trend is bound to cause great losses to human society.In order to achieve low emissions,low energy consumption and low pollution,the concept of low carbon economy has been born.As an industry with high energy consumption and high carbon emission,the steel industry’s daily production and business activities will have a certain impact on the environment,so it is particularly important for steel enterprises to disclose high-quality carbon information.Based on this,this paper selects the iron and steel industry as the research object of carbon information disclosure,and studies the situation of Chinese iron and steel industry and enterprises’ carbon information disclosure in the form of case study.Firstly,this paper summarizes and sorts out relevant researches on the status quo of carbon information disclosure proposed by domestic and foreign scholars,laying a foundation for the following research content.Then,the status quo of carbon information disclosure in the steel industry is analyzed.29 listed companies in the steel industry are selected.By searching the annual reports,sustainable development reports or social responsibility reports of sample enterprises in recent three years,the relevant content of carbon information is screened out from the reports by manual consulting,and the status quo is analyzed from the two aspects of carbon information disclosure methods and contents.And the existing problems of carbon information disclosure in steel industry are expounded.Then,on the basis of the existing carbon information disclosure system,a set of carbon information disclosure index system suitable for the steel industry is constructed.The construction process is mainly as follows:According to the principle of combining comprehensive indicators with industry-specific indicators,the selection of indicators refers to the framework content of the world’s most influential carbon Information Disclosure Project(CDP)and the research results of domestic and foreign scholars,combined with the relevant standards and guidelines issued by the steel industry,Based on the five principles of scientificity,systematization,comparability,specificity and diversity of disclosure methods,the three dimensions of carbon information disclosure quality were reflected,and a carbon information disclosure quality evaluation system for the steel industry was constructed with carbon strategy,carbon accounting and carbon management as the first-level indicators.Next,Baosteel and Masteel are selected as case enterprises for analysis,and the index system constructed in this paper is used to evaluate the quality of its carbon information disclosure.It is found that there are many problems in the carbon information disclosure of the iron and steel industry,such as lack of standardized disclosure,lack of disclosure initiative,incomplete disclosure content and lack of systematic disclosure.By applying the index system constructed in this paper to Baosteel and Masteel,the carbon information disclosure situation of Baosteel and Masteel is analyzed from the three aspects of carbon strategy,carbon accounting and carbon management respectively.It can be found that from 2019 to 2021,the carbon information disclosure quality of Baosteel and Masteel is constantly improving,which is reflected in the gradual increase of disclosure content related to carbon strategy.Such as the setting of organizational structure,low carbon policy,risk and opportunity identification;More efforts have been put into data collection,processing and reporting of carbon accounting,and more attention has been paid to transparency and comparability in data disclosure.Investment and performance in carbon management are improving year by year,as is the quality of disclosure.Generally speaking,Baosteel shares and Masteel shares have a good level of carbon information disclosure.At the end of the paper,countermeasures are proposed for the existing problems of carbon information disclosure in the steel industry,which can be improved mainly by improving the carbon emission management system,strengthening the management of carbon information disclosure at the organizational level,improving the supervision and management functions of the government,establishing the third-party audit system,promoting the development of the carbon emission trading market and enhancing the awareness of corporate social responsibility in order to promote the quality of carbon information disclosure in our iron and steel industry to improve continuously.
