Polyester/cotton(PET/CO)fabrics are widely used as clothing and textile materials because they have combined advantages of polyester and cotton.However,the flammability of PET/CO fabrics cause serious fire hazards and greatly limits their applications.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to improve the flame retardancy of PET/CO fabrics.In this paper,the PET/CO fabrics were grafted by UVcuring technology,which is simple,widely applicable and environmentally friendly.The treated PET/CO fabrics have good flame retardant and hydrophobicity.In the first part of this paper,a new flame retardant monomer(EPPEM)based on phenylphosphoacyl dichloride,piperazine and hydroxyethyl methacrylate was successfully synthesized.EPPEM was grafted on the surface of PET/CO fabrics by UVcuring.After burning,dense and continuous carbon layer appeared on the surface of the treated fabrics,showing good char formation.The limiting oxygen index(LOI)value of the UV-curable PET/CO fabric with 30 wt% EPPEM increased from 17.7% to 27.2%.In addition,the LOI value of the treated PET/CO fabrics still reached 26.1% after 25 washing cycles,showing good flame retardancy and water resistance.In the second part,a new type of phosphorus/nitrogen monomer(HEPME)was synthesized successfully based on phenylphosphoryl dichloride,1.3-diaminopropanol and hydroxyethyl methacrylate,which was grafted onto the surface of PET/CO fabric by UV-curing.Boric acid/borax pad baking and organosiloxane coating further prepared the flame-retardant and hydrophobic PET/CO fabrics.The synergistic effect of flame retardant HEPME,boric acid/borax and organosiloxane endowed the PET/CO fabrics with good char forming ability and flame retardant.The char residue of treated fabrics increased from 11.6% to 36.6% at 800 °C in nitrogen,and the LOI value increases from 19.0% to 26.9%.After 25 washing cycles,the LOI value still reached25.5%.At the same time,the water contact angle of treated PET/CO fabrics can reach133°,which had good hydrophobicity.Furthermore,the treated PET/CO fabrics were not contaminated after contact with various dye solutions and sand,indicating that it has a certain degree of anti-fouling and self-cleaning ability,which is of great significance to expand and promote the practical application of PET/CO fabrics. |
