Research On The Impact Of Green Technology Innovation On The Performance Of Heavy-polluting Enterprises

The outline of the 14 th Five-Year Plan points out that the real economy should be given a prominent place in economic development,and that we should strive to build a strong manufacturing country and a strong quality country.Industry is a pillar industry in China,and its contribution to stabilising the economy,solving social problems and creating social benefits cannot be underestimated.However,along with the rapid development of human society,the change in modern production and lifestyle has led to an increasingly prominent conflict between man and nature,and ecological problems have become more and more serious,while heavily polluting enterprises,which form the core of industrial enterprises,continue to rely on energy consumption and sacrifice the environment to obtain economic benefits in most cases,resulting in a huge "environmental deficit" in the ecological environment under the heavy burden.Green technology innovation,as a product of balancing economic development and environmental protection,has become an important means to encourage heavily polluting enterprises to enjoy the economic dividends of resource consumption while consciously taking responsibility for environmental protection and achieving sustainable development.However,although heavy polluting enterprises have a strong demand for green technology innovation,many realistic problems,such as low level of R&D investment,insufficient independent innovation capability,lack of core key technologies and weak industrial infrastructure system,have seriously restricted the road to high-quality development and green transformation of heavy polluting enterprises.To achieve the transformation from high growth to high quality development and from manufacturing to creation,the core breakthrough lies in innovation.Innovation is at the forefront of the five development concepts and is the source of power that helps create social benefits and empowers enterprises to break through development bottlenecks.However,a substantial quantity of human,financial,and material resources are needed in advance for R&D endeavors,and the economic value of R&D results is highly uncertain.Therefore,how to promote or persuade heavy polluting enterprises to take the initiative and effectively carry out green technology innovation is becoming a hot issue for academic research.Through a review of relevant theories and research findings at home and abroad,this paper analyses the motivations for green technology innovation in heavily polluting enterprises from both internal and external perspectives,and collates the research findings in the existing literature on the relationship between green technology innovation and the economic,environmental and social performance of enterprises.This paper then defines the concepts of heavy polluting enterprises,green innovation and enterprise performance,and systematically elaborates the motivations for green technological innovation in heavy polluting enterprises from a theoretical perspective based on the resource-based view,the Porter hypothesis and sustainable development.The paper then constructs an enterprise performance evaluation system based on stakeholder theory and triple bottom line theory,and explores the impact mechanisms of green technology innovation on economic performance,environmental performance and social performance of heavy polluting enterprises from various perspectives.Based on the theoretical framework,this paper uses the case study method to analyse and compare two aspects of industry positioning and enterprise positioning,and then selects Hunan Province’s No.1 industrial enterprise,Valin Iron and Steel,as a case study object to explore the intrinsic motivation of its green technological innovation behaviour and its impact on the economic,environmental and social performance of the enterprise.Finally,this paper puts forward some suggestions from the enterprise,market and government levels,aiming at promoting technological innovation in heavy pollution industries from the perspective of stakeholders,stimulating enterprises’ enthusiasm for green technological innovation to a greater extent,and laying a solid foundation for innovation to accelerate the formation of a green development pattern.Through research and analysis,the conclusions reached in this paper are as follows: Firstly,the pollutant problems brought about by heavy polluting enterprises have been alleviated on the whole,and green technological innovation inputs and outputs have been effective,but the energy consumption of heavy polluting enterprises is still at a high level at present,and green development still has a long way to go.Secondly,green technology innovation can improve the economic performance of enterprises in three aspects: innovation performance,market performance and financial performance.Thirdly,green process innovation optimises the production process,reduces energy consumption,and at the same time promotes the recycling of waste water and solid waste,which effectively enhances resource recycling and environmental protection and improves the environmental performance of enterprises.Fourthly,green technology innovation enhances the value of stakeholders by improving the affordability of taxes and fees,strengthening the rights and interests of employees,providing high value-added products to customers and promoting social sharing of innovation results,thereby improving the social performance of enterprises.Based on this,heavy polluters will be better able to move towards green transformation after a "combination" of internalising green innovation awareness in the management,strengthening regulation and guidance by the government,and stimulating consumer demand in the market.
