| With rapid social and economic development, ecological and environmental issues are becoming increasingly important.Given the global need to save energy and reduce emissions, the development and use of environmentally friendly materials is one of the most important ways to address environmental problems and resource overload. In order to promote the sustainable development of society, more and more designers are getting involved in the study of materials. In recent years, the coffee market has gradually expanded and at the same time produced a large amount of coffee grounds waste,in order to seek new design possibilities, coffee grounds as an ecological material is gradually coming into view and being rediscovered and utilised.Firstly, the design methodology and application practice of coffee grounds composites in household products is the main object of study. This paper firstly reviews the development trend of coffee grounds composites in the design field, and through the analysis and comparison of other ecological composites’ application status, the methods and design applications of coffee grounds composites are found.Secondly, experiments are carried out in groups on the proportioning of coffee grounds with different binders, and the influencing factors of the material properties are analysed and tested to explore the feasibility of its application in household products. Finally, the design practice is carried out from the perspectives of material properties, moulding process, innovation and functionality, and the design concept of its application to modern household products is proposed. The aim of this selection is to balance the relationship between materials and the environment from a design perspective in a way that research on materials drives product design practice. The project explores how to further expand the added value of coffee grounds, providing a new way of thinking for the application of coffee grounds composites in household products,as well as seeking more possibilities for the practical application of other ecological materials in product design. |
