An important initiative in today’s society to support the optimization of economic structure and upgrade the economic development model is the advancement of energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry,which not only raises the quality of the ecological environment to a new level but also significantly accelerates and enhances economic growth.The nexus between energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry and economic development has gained significant attention from academic circles as well as society at large.Since there are numerous subsectors in the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry,there are comparatively few studies on the interactions between different industries and very fewer studies on the industry as a whole with national statistical standards.Despite the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry’s encouragement of economic growth,there are still many barriers impeding the industry’s development as well as national or regional development.Scientific quantification of the industry’s contribution to social and economic development is required,and given the industry’s current situation,countermeasures must be recommended.This study aims to promote the development of China’s energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry by analyzing its development and the impacts it has on other areas of the national economy.In order to achieve this,according to the national statistical standards,this article compiles the input-output table for the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry in China in 2017 and examines the linkage,revenue,and employment effects of this sector by using the input-output analysis approach.Initially,the Statistical Classification of Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Clean Industries(2021)is used to define the breadth of the industry,the proportional factor drift method is used to find the separation coefficient for each department.After isolating and combining the pertinent sectors,a 20-sector input-output table for the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry is built,which accounts for the industry’s size and summarizes its development traits.Additionally,the consumption coefficient,distribution coefficient,influence coefficient,and sensitivity coefficient are calculated in order to examine the correlation features of the industry.The industry’s impact on income is then examined using pertinent industrial economics theories and input-output partial closed model,and its impact on employment is quantified using pertinent employment coefficients.The analysis of this paper produces the following conclusions by using the input-output table of the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry.First,in 2017,China’s energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry contributed 4.5%of GDP in added value,with a value-added rate of 36% and an intermediate input rate of64%.Second,the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry has a strong radiative and constraining effect on all sectors,especially the strong industrial connection with manufacturing,electricity,heat,gas,and water production and supply.The industry is a production factor-oriented industry with the characteristics of a key industry and a bottleneck industry.Third,the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry has a significant pulling effect on GDP,operating surplus and tax revenue,and can strongly pull the economic growth of other sectors.What’s more,the industry has become a new growth point for operating surplus and tax revenue,but its role as an engine for economic and social output and value added needs to be strengthened.Fourth,the indirect employment contribution of the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry is impressive,and it plays a significant role in promoting labor force employment in other industrial sectors.The industry also has a strong potential to absorb employment,and it may in the future draw a sizable number of labor force relocations.In order to design an industrial innovation and growth strategy that is in keeping with China’s reality,it is crucial to carefully study the features of the economic development of the country’s energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry.Regions should focus on the associated capacity of the energy conservation and environmental protection clean industry,take the industry’s income effect and employment effect as the focal point,and use those factors as the fulcrum for their own development capacity.By strengthening infrastructure construction and key core technology research,regions can help the industry create more value. |
