The Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan region has entered a new period of high-speed development,with significant changes in landscape patterns,serious ecological destruction,and a clear trend of radiation to surrounding areas.This article uses software such as InVEST,GEE,and Fragstats to study the spatiotemporal changes and driving mechanisms of carbon storage in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan region,and provides a reference for the carbon sequestration value of land use and ecological protection at the basic level of spatial planning for the urban agglomeration,which is of great significance in promoting the comprehensive low-carbon transformation of the social and economic system from a basic level.The main research questions are:(1)the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and evolutionary laws of carbon storage in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan region under the influence of urban expansion and land cover changes;(2)the relationship between landscape pattern,habitat quality,and spatiotemporal changes of carbon storage;and(3)the driving factors that affect the changes in carbon storage and how to drive the spatiotemporal distribution of carbon storage.The results are as follows:(1)Due to the expansion of the CZT urban agglomeration,natural forests and grasslands have experienced significant degradation,and some cultivated land has been converted into urban construction land,resulting in a decrease in carbon stocks in the CZT region.However,the implementation of ecological environmental protection policies in the CZT region has slowed down the rate of carbon stock decline over the years.The study reveals that with the development of the urban agglomeration,the center of carbon stock decline has gradually shifted from the urban area of Changsha City to the southern urban areas,while areas with increasing carbon stocks are mainly distributed in the expanded peripheral areas of Changsha’s main urban area and the eastern Luo-xiu and Mu-fu mountain ranges.The evolution of carbon stocks follows a similar trend to the curve of land use changes,showing a slight increase followed by a rapid decline.(2)Habitat quality in the CZT region exhibits a strong correlation with various landscape indices.Landscape composition significantly influences carbon stocks,with different landscape level indices impacting carbon stocks differently.In general,the more severe the landscape fragmentation,the lower the carbon stock level.There is a significant correlation between habitat quality and carbon stocks.Areas with excellent habitat quality have abundant forest resources and high ecological diversity.This indicates a strong positive correlation between species richness and carbon stock levels.The more complex the forest community,the higher the carbon storage capacity in the area.(3)Soil type and habitat quality are the most significant driving forces affecting the spatial-temporal changes in carbon stocks,while surface temperature,annual precipitation,and topography also exert strong influences.Vegetation type has the least influence on carbon stocks.The driving factors exhibit non-linear enhanced interactions among themselves,collectively influencing the spatial-temporal distribution of carbon stocks.Therefore,it can be seen that the discipline of landscape architecture has an important guiding role in the impact of carbon storage.A good landscape spatial layout and green space system planning can effectively reduce the impact of urban expansion on the reduction of carbon storage,enriching the research ideas of landscape architecture in the field of carbon sequestration.
