After a long period of social transformation and ethnic fusion,our country’s ancient society developed into one of the most prosperous regions all around the world during the Tang Dynasty.The Tang Dynasty’s sphere of influence stretched east to the Korean Peninsula,west to Central Asia,south to India,and north to Mongolia at its golden age,which was not only the peak of political and economic development and the flourishing era of culture in Chinese history,but also the glorious period of cross-cultural exchanges between the East and the West.The unique development background of the Tang Dynasty laid a good foundation for the formation of the style characteristics of feminine clothing.The development of clothing culture was prosperous unprecedentedly,showing the characteristics of "openness and tolerance","change and innovation","luxury and richness",and "integration and unity" overall.The tomb murals of the Tang Dynasty unearthed in Shanxi,Xinjiang and other places,the pottery figurines of Tang Dynasty,and the costumes in the paintings handed down from the Tang Dynasty are all favorable supports for the study of women’s costumes in the Tang Dynasty.In the era of cultural self-confidence,especially under the implementation of the strategy of strengthening the national cultural construction supported by science and technology,the inheritance and promotion of the Chinese traditional culture confront with the new challenges and opportunities."Promote the new style of righteousness,strengthen cultural self-confidence,and inherit Chinese civilization.The art of costume dramas must truly restore the basic styles of architecture,clothing,makeup,etc.Don’t use it casually or imitate foreign styles following the trend." was proposed in the symposium on TV drama creation held by the State Administration of Radio on July 4th 2022.The research significance of this article lies in how to deeply study the style of feminine clothing in the Tang Dynasty,find an entry point that conforms to the fashion design elements of modern performance clothing,and integrate it into the new design in an ingenious way accompanying with respecting the cultural connotation of traditional feminine clothing in the Tang Dynasty.This article starts with the purpose and significance,research situation,research methods and thoughts of the research on feminine clothing style in Tang Dynasty and its innovative application in modern performance clothing to clarify the concept and scope of feminine clothing in Tang Dynasty and modern performance clothing.The pointcut of this article is the social context of the Tang Dynasty,including the influence of political exchanges,economic interoperability,multiculturalism,and women’s social status on feminine clothing during the Tang Dynasty,exploring the characteristics of the evolution of feminine clothing and the recreation and derivation of feminine clothing under the background of cultural exchanges in the Tang Dynasty.The author hopes to sort out the causes and artistic characteristics of the evolution of feminine clothing in each period of the Tang Dynasty in this article and expand new ideas for exploring the innovative use of feminine clothing in the Tang Dynasty in modern performance costumes meanwhile.
