Air pollutants are complex and unstable, which lead to various human diseases.Mask,as filter for particulate matters and biological aerosols,is the simplest and most effective protection, and has become a necessity in daily life. The raw materials of protective masks are mostly petroleum-based polymers. This can be a serious threat to the environment, since these masks are extensively used and causally disposed. Moreover,in emergencies such as epidemics, the current masks still lack antiviral and antibiotics ability. Thus,it is necessary and important to prepare high-performance air filter such as masks with degradable raw materials.Paper-based materials are widely available, biodegradable, and can be produced in large scale industrially.Paper-based materials also have network structure formed by interweaving fibers, which provides unique advantages as air filtration materials. The main challenge of paper-based air filters is the performance.Combination of functional materials and paper matrix can create filters with high performance;thus,it is crucial to ensure the combination of functional materials. Therefore,in this thesis, gels loaded with functional materials were used to prepare paper materials, together with cellulose fibers. The synthesis of composite gel and the interaction with cellulose fibers were explored,as well as the forming and drying methods of composite paper. Finally, composite paperbased air filter material with functional components was obtained, with high utilization efficiency and strong combination of functional materials.Firstly, chitosan gel was used as carrier for functional materials. The influence of related factors on the carrier gel particles was analyzed,in which the polymer concentration had significant influence on the particle size.Nano-CuO particles(nCuO)with antiviral properties and metal organic framework ZIF-8 with large specific surface area and high porosity were used as functional substances.nCuO/CS and ZIF-8/CS composite gels were prepared by blending and in situ gelation method, respectively. The loading rate of functional substances reached 72.8%and 78.9%,the retention rate reached 98.9%and 88.9%,indicating that they were efficiently loaded and retained.Secondly, gel composite paper was constructed by the combination of carrier gel and cellulose fiber. The morphology of gel in paper-based materials was analyzed;the interaction between composite gel and the fiber was studied;the influencing factors on the morphology and physical properties of composite paper were also explored, including the particle size of gel, mass percentage, fiber type, and the basis weight of paper.Furthermore, the composite paper with functional materials was prepared. The retention rate of functional substances reached 84.4%,which tested the feasibility of the gel coating method. Finally, the preparation process of composite paper was explored, and the filtration performance and the binding stability of functional substances of composite paper were analyzed. The influence of drying and forming methods on the microstructure and comprehensive properties of composite paper were explored.Contact drying and freeze drying are combined to remove water, and the time ratio of the two modes influenced the mechanical properties and air permeability of paper-based materials.Compared with pure cellulose paper, the filtration efficiency of composite paper on PM0.3 increased by 40%,indicating the strategy of improving the filtration performance of paper-based materials with composite functional substances is effective. In this thesis, chitosan gel was used as a carrier for nCuO and ZIF-8,and the composite gel interacted with cellulose to construct paper-based air filter. The nano functional materials were introduced into the paper matrix and was effectively preserved. The application of paper-based materials in air filtration was explored, which provides academic reference for the development of paper industry.
