Guizhou Miao Costume Based On Structural Semiotics Research On Embroidery Patterns

The subtle aesthetic construction and rich cultural connotations of the embroidered patterns of Miao costumes in Guizhou,which have undergone a long history of sedimentation and glowed with unique national wisdom,have prompted many scholars to devote themselves to the study of Miao embroidery as a cultural heritage.The purpose of this paper is to study the visual forms of Miao embroidery patterns in Guizhou,taking the construction analysis,semantic analysis and pragmatic analysis of semiotics by William Morris as the theoretical basis,the structural analysis of semiotics as the entry point,various Miao costumes in the Guizhou Provincial Museum as the main research samples,and several visits to local Miao villages in Guizhou as the main research samples.The material is supplemented by samples obtained from several field trips to local Miao villages in Guizhou to further explore the symbolic connections between Miao people and embroidery patterns and to seek the artistic patterns behind them.The structure of the embroidery patterns of the Miao costumes in Guizhou is viewed from a semiotic perspective,and the motifs,symbolic conventions,and symbolic meanings are systematically classified and analyzed,and the research data are presented in the form of charts.The symbolic conventions are mainly influenced by history,culture,nature worship,customs,religious beliefs and so on.Most of the symbolic meanings are to express the worship of ancestors,belief in life,and the desire for love and an auspicious life.The embroidery patterns of Miao costumes in Guizhou have the aesthetic characteristics of the beauty of simplicity and life,and are characterized by ethnicization,regionalization,totemization and emotion.By applying Morris’ s semiotic theory to the study of the connotation of Guizhou Miao costume embroidery patterns,an innovative path of rationalization,systematization and data exploration is opened up.By studying and re-creating the visual symbols of Guizhou Miao costume embroidery patterns,we further explore the application of traditional Miao costume embroidery patterns in the modern context,and provide data support and literature reference for future research on Miao costume embroidery patterns and the inheritance and development of Miao non-heritage culture.
