Silk/polyester interwoven fabric possesses excellent hygroscopic ability, air permeability and wrinkle resistance. However, due to the huge difference in hydrophilicity and heat resistance between polyester and silk, the dyeing of silk/polyester interwoven fabric faces a series of difficulties. In this paper, the silk/polyester plain interwoven fabric was dyed with reactive dye/disperse dye mixed dyeing solution.By measuring the surface tension, particle size and backscattering spectrum of mixed dyeing solution with reactive dye or disperse dye of different concentration, the influence of two kinds of dyes on the stability of the mixed dyeing solution was revealed. The steaming-baking dyeing method was applied to the dyeing of silk/polyester interwoven fabrics and its dyeing effect was compared with that of the conventional baking-steaming dyeing method. The K/S values of fabrics dyed at different steaming time, baking temperature and baking time were measured, and the dyeing conditions were optimized by comparing the dyeing performance of fabrics. The K/S value of fabrics dyed with reactive dye and disperse dye of various concentration was measured, and the improvement ability of the dyes in steaming-baking dyeing process was studied. The dyeing performance of fabric was characterized by observing the crosssections of its silk and polyester fibers respectively. The K/S value curves and XRD spectra of dyed fabric and its silk and polyester components were measured, the mechanism of the steaming-baking dyeing process and its influence on fiber structure were analyzed. The sustainability of the dyeing method was revealed by calculating the difference between dye consumption and carbon emission.Furthermore, the fabric was dyed in the batching-fixing process, the K/S value of the dyed fabric was measured, and the promoting effect of batching treatment on dyeing was explored. The disperse dye on the fabric were extracted with N,N dimethylformamide and the absorbance curve of the extracting solution was measured, revealing the dye distribution and transferring phenomenon during the dyeing process.By measuring the stress-strain curve of the fabric, the influence of the dyeing process on fabric strength was characterized. The results show that the reactive dye/disperse dye mixed dyeing solution possesses great stability.Changing the dye concentration has little effect on the properties of the mixed dyeing solution. The color strength of fabrics dyed in steaming-baking process is higher than that of fabrics dyed by conventional baking-steaming method, and the dyed fabrics exhibit qualified color fastness. The reduction of dyeing time and carbon emission were achieved by the steaming-baking dyeing process.By applying batching treatment to the padded fabric, the distribution of the disperse dye on the polyester fibers can be effectively improved, the adsorption and penetration of the reactive dye on the silk fibers can be promoted, which improved the dyeing performance of the silk/polyester interwoven fabrics. After batching for 1.5 h,the best dyeing performance was obtained. In addition, the dyed fabric exhibited satisfactory color fastness and tensile strength.
