| Environmental risks are one of the modern risks,and the media’s presentation of environmental risks is directly related to the process of solving environmental risk problems.Nowadays,the development of big data has given rise to a new news format and model of data journalism,which exhibits different characteristics from traditional non-data journalism.This study focuses on data journalism on environmental issues,and examines and analyzes the general characteristics and risk presentation characteristics of this type of reporting to answer the question of how data journalism presents environmental risks.The study used content analysis to select a sample of all reports on environmental issues from five professional data journalism organizations,to construct categories with reference to existing studies,to sort and code each report,and finally to count and analyze the data and explore the causes behind the data.A comprehensive analysis shows that the content of environmental data news reports is based on man-made risks as the main risk type,and the factual state is mainly non-emergency events and more negative reports;in terms of data use,the data sources are diversified,mainly the government,and there is a high degree of transparency.At the risk presentation level,reporting is dominated by factual framing of risk,a bias toward identifying risk as serious,a lack of data to support attribution of risk and attribution of blame,and very little reporting of risk prediction;sources influence risk construction in the media to a lesser extent,but generally show consistency.In conclusion,the features of data journalism add macroscopic perspective and accuracy to environmental reporting and contribute to the innovation of environmental reporting content forms.While data journalism currently focuses on the facts of environmental risks,big data holds much more potential,and data journalism should continue to explore the feasibility of environmental risk reporting,communication,and early warning. |
