The Naifu and Zhangshi chapters of "Tian Gong Kai Wu" record and summarize in detail the practical production experience and technological achievements of clothing dyeing and weaving design in the late Ming Dynasty. However, the study of its creation ideas does not seem to have received due attention.Dress art is a reflection of life and ideas.By using the methods of literature analysis and inductive research, combined with the background of the times and the development of dyeing and weaving technology, the paper preliminarily proposes that "Heavenly Craft and Open Fabrics" is the subjective and objective reason for the birth of the clothing chapter and the Zhangshi chapter;Based on a large number of illustrations and text in the article, the fiber materials and weaving processes of late Ming Dynasty woven fabrics,as well as the plant materials and dyeing processes of grass and wood dyeing, were systematically elaborated, and the technological core of late Ming Dynasty dyed fabrics was established as "Heavenly Craft and Natural Nature";Based on the records of Song Yixing, this paper focuses on the ethical core reflected in the dyeing and weaving process of the Ming Dynasty, namely,"the rule of distinction between high and low" and "the natural principle of color and quality";Perfecting and supplementing the changes in the arrogance of etiquette and the pursuit of beauty in fashion in the late Ming Dynasty that were not systematically described in "Tiangong Kaiwu",it is concluded that "people-oriented" and "respecting differences" are the proper meanings of clothing design. The thesis attempts to delineate the overall technological, ethical, aesthetic, and cultural aspects of dyeing and weaving in the late Ming Dynasty through the descriptions of the "Tiangong Kaiwu" and the "Zhang Shi" chapters, excavate the life concepts that fit into the new era,and explore their connotations, with a view to providing a reference basis for contemporary dyeing and weaving clothing practice and expanding the theoretical connotation for contemporary clothing design.
