With the continuous development of technology,there is an increasing demand for lightweight,low cost and high integration of devices.Therefore,antenna miniaturization and phased array grating lobe suppression are hot research topic in the field of antennas.In this paper,spoof surface plasmon polaritons(SSPPs)are used to miniaturize antenna,and metasurface is used to suppress the gating lobe of phased array antenna.The main contents are summarized as follows:(1)A miniaturized circularly polarized slot-ring antenna based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons is designed.SSPPs can achieve device miniaturization due to their slow wave performance.By applying the SSPP structure loaded with periodic grooves on the slot line to a conventional circularly polarized slot-ring antenna,the operating frequency of the antenna is reduced,thus achieving a 36.2% reduction in the equivalent area of the antenna while maintaining good radiation performance.(2)A method to achieve phased array gating lobe suppression using metasurface is investigated,and the feasibility of the method is initially verified by a passive metasurface.The antenna units of the phased array are spaced by 0.6 wavelengths.By loading passive metasurface with specific phase distribution on the phased array,the linear phased array achieves gating lobe suppression between 38° and 50° in H-plane,and the area phased array achieves gating lobe suppression between 31° and 50° in E-plane and 41° and 52° in H-plane.Accordingly,the main beam gain is improved and the gain fluctuation is reduced.(3)A transmissive active coding metasurface is designed to suppress the phased array gating lobe over a wider scanning range.By controlling the working state of the PIN diode to switch the two coding modes of the active metasurface,the scanning range of the linear phased array without grating lobe in the H-plane is expanded from -40°~40° to -50°~50°,which increases by 25%,and the gain fluctuation is reduced.
