Multiple sub-streams are utilized by Multi-path transmission control protocol(MPTCP)to transmit data on parallel multi-path,which achieve higher throughput than single path TCP protocol. However, how to achieve the balance between efficiency and fairness in multi-path transmission has become a research hotspot of this protocol, especially MPTCP protocol should ensure TCP fairness when single path TCP and MPTCP shared the network bottleneck. This paper discusses the research status of the shared bottleneck detection scheme of MPTCP,and introduces the common shared bottleneck detection schemes in detail. The scheme based on intermediate nodes can identify the same MPTCP sender's sub-streams more accurately, but it has a large deployment overhead. The existing shared bottleneck detection based on end-to-end delay has the advantage of easy deployment, but the accuracy is not satisfied in multi-bottleneck links. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi sharing bottleneck detection scheme based on congestion markers of intermediate nodes. The main contributions of this paper are as follows:1.Aiming at the problem of poor accuracy of delay based shared bottleneck detection scheme in multi-bottleneck channels, this paper proposes an Explicit Congestion Notification(ECN)based shared bottleneck detection method for multipath transmission control protocol(EMPTCP).EMPTCP applies widely deployed ECN mechanism to detect the sharing bottleneck of multiple sub-streams,and is compatible with a variety of MPTCP congestion control algorithms.Experimental results show that compared with the delay based shared bottleneck detection scheme, the accuracy of EMPTCP is improved by 21.4%.2.In the existing shared bottleneck detection schemes, there is a lack of theoretical model analysis of accuracy and fairness. This paper uses fluid model to analyze the performance of shared bottleneck detection schemes, and compares the accuracy and fairness of different shared bottleneck detection schemes. In addition, the simulation results show that the fairness performance of EMPTCP is 25.2% higher than that of the delay based shared bottleneck detection scheme. The advantage of EMPTCP designed in this paper is that it can ensure the correct rate of shared bottleneck detection in multi bottleneck environment, because the congestion marking information of intermediate nodes is not as easy to be affected by intermediate nodes as the end-to-end delay information.EMPTCP needs the middle node to turn on the ECN function. Now that most of the hardware has ECN function,I think that its application prospect is satisfied enough.
