Wireless communication technology has been developing rapidly and plays a role in various fields of application, which is the cornerstone of modern information society.Millimeter wave band has a very wide bandwidth, can transmit more information. In the future, millimeter wave wireless system will bring vigorous development opportunities.Mixer,as an indispensable module in wireless system,is facing many problems and challenges. This paper first introduces the importance of mixer in RF transceiver system. Then introduces the research of mixer in recent years to understand the development direction and main innovation structure of mixer. After that, the basic principle of mixer is given, and the main indicators of mixer are introduced. Then This Paper Analyzes the gain, linearity and isolation of mixer. The topology structures of high-performance mixers are also given, which are convenient for designing mixers for different use scenarios. After that, this paper introduces the design of a mixer for 5G millimeter wave communication. The mixer uses a passive ring resistive mixer core and a common source buffer with neutralizing capacitor cascade structure, using high-order transformer matching network and high-order matching balun,in 65-nm CMOS process. After the test, the measurement results show a 2.5 dB conversion gain,a 2.48 dbm output 1 dB compression point, and the operating bandwidth covers 23 to 30 Ghz.Compared with traditional communication system, communication system in millimeter wave frequency band has obvious advantages. However, the ultra wide bandwidth also brings the problem of difficulty in filtering the local oscillation leakage. In order to solve this problem, this paper starts from the phenomenon of DC mixing and verifies the theory by simulation.A new type of quadrature ultra-high isolation mixer based on DC mixing in 65-nm CMOS technology is designed. After the simulation verification, the mixer has a more than 76 dBc ultra-high isolation and a 3 dBm output1-dB compression point, which verifies the practicability of the design. The scheme solves the problem of the local oscillation leakage caused by the ultra wideband characteristics in millimeter wave communication by a simple method, which greatly simplifies the complexity of the RF system design.
