Spoof surface plasmon polaritons(SSPPs)are a special surface wave in terahertz and microwave frequencies that propagates along the metal surface and decay exponentially along the vertical direction.Similar to the surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs)in the optical wave band,SSPPs show excellent characteristics such as strong field confinement and adjustable dispersion.Since the proposal of SSPPs,great attention has been paid to it in terahertz and microwave band,and a lot of research results have been obtained in transmission line,filter and other RF devices.In the vision of the applications of in the field of antenna design,the characteristics of dispersion,odd mode and even mode of SSPPs have been combed in the paper.Based on the existing antenna and characteristics of SSPPs,several low-profile vertical polarization antennas and a new rotated SSPPs antenna are designed.The main contents of this paper are summarized as follows:Firstly,considering the specific environment of the application,a lowprofile vertical polarized end-fire antenna applying SSPPs is proposed,which is fed by the cone-like monopole.It shows a good impedance matching bandwidth.And it realizes omnidirectional radiation through a ring array by using the end-fire antennas.Furthermore,combined with bending ground,an end-fire antenna based on single-side SSPPs is designed,whose far-field pattern has a smaller angle of up-warping.In addition,a lowprofile end-fire antenna with vertical polarization applying single-side SSPPs is proposed.By extending and bending the branch of SSPPs,the antenna works at lower frequency with lower profile.Secondly,aiming at the single polarization of end-fire antenna and broadside antenna with poor omni-directional pattern,a novel rotated SSPPs(R-SSPPs)structure is put forward.The characteristics of dispersion and transmission of R-SSPPs is simulated and discussed.Furthermore,an endfire antenna and a broadside antenna based on R-SSPPs are proposed.The measured results show that the end-fire antenna provides a stable end-fire pattern with good circular polarization and the broadside antenna has good omnidirectional performance.
