Air turbulence is an important cause of geometric distortion and blur of the image. It will greatly reduce the quality of videos and images captured by the camera from a long distance. It is of important research significance to recover clear images from the air turbulence-degraded video image sequence. The existing air turbulence degraded video image restoration framework fails to efficiently filter the sequence of degraded frames, resulting in poor restored image quality and complex algorithms. The restoration framework proposed in this paper, which has a frame selection step based on the optimal transmission distance, can effectively improve the quality of image restoration. The main work of this paper is as follows:First, the phenomenon and causes of air turbulence, the main effects of air turbulence on optical imaging, the optimal transmission problem and the application of optimal transmission distance in image processing are summarized and analyzed;Second,a frame selection step was first added to the restoration framework combining image registration and blind deconvolution, and frames with poor quality(such as very blurred or very deformed)were removed to construct a new type of air turbulence degraded video image recovery framework.Third,in the added frame selection step, the advanced optimal transmission theory and its optimal transmission distance are introduced, the image recovery algorithm is optimized, and the proposed algorithm is verified by MATLAB software. The new video image restoration framework and algorithm proposed by this paper can not only improve the visual effect and performance of the recovered image, but also effectively reduce the complexity of the algorithm.
