Since the new curriculum reform, with the Ministry of Education promulgating institution: Biology Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 –year Edition,2020–year Revision)(Abbreviation: Curriculum Standards),various publishers have successively compiled different editions of senior high school biology textbooks. The new curriculum reform emphasized the idea that teachers should use textbooks instead of teaching them. Therefore,it was of theoretical and practical significance to compare different editions of textbooks to find out their similarities and differences of each edition, and put forward suggestions on the use of textbooks. In this paper, taking Compulsory 2: Genetics and Evolution as an example, the literature analysis and comparative research methods were carried out on the five editions of textbooks, including People's Education Edition(Abbreviation: PEP),Zhejiang Science Edition(Abbreviation: ZKP),Jiangsu Education Edition(Abbreviation: JSEP),Beijing Normal University Edition(Abbreviation: BNUP)and Shanghai Science and Education Edition(Abbreviation: SSTE).The comparison included compiling ideas, compiling styles, knowledge content, columns, activities, illustrations and exercises. The results were as follows: 1)In compiling ideas,People's Education Edition,Zhejiang Science Edition and Jiangsu Education Edition were all compiled according to the history of development of science, while Beijing Normal University Edition and Shanghai Science and Education Edition were compiled with the core of modern genetics-gene;2)In writing style, the overall structure and chapter structure of the five editions of textbooks were basically the same, and each edition of textbooks has its own characteristics in specific content;3)In knowledge content, the content of People's Education Edition was relatively basic, while the depth and breadth of knowledge in the other four editions have increased;4)In column setting,People's Education Edition had the largest number of columns. The columns in each edition of textbooks were divided into four categories, only the People's Education Edition and Zhejiang Science Edition had target columns, and the other three columns in the five editions of textbooks had little difference;5)In teaching activities, the activity items of five editions of textbooks were highly consistent, but each edition had its own characteristics in terms of specific activity content. In addition, the activity safety education was only found in People's Education Edition and Jiangsu Education Edition;6)In illustration, the quality and content of illustrations was little difference in the five editions of textbooks, but Zhejiang Science Edition had the least number of illustrations;7)In exercise,People's Education Edition and Jiangsu Education Edition had both section exercises and chapter exercises, the others only had section exercises.Beijing Normal University Edition exercises focused on creating situations, and the content of examination was more comprehensive and difficult.According to the study results, some suggestions on the use of textbooks were put forward:establishing the concept of “student-oriented”;carefully studying Curriculum Standard;focusing on creating the situation;attaching importance to knowledge integration and connection;using the history of biological sciences to assist teaching;innovating the teaching methods of columns;enriching the types of activities;using the exercises types flexibly. It is expected to provide some reference for teachers.
