As a teaching method and skill,“the capability of instructing students in various information contests and activities and improving students' information creativity and application ability” has been written into Construction Standards of Digital Campus for Middle Schools and Primary Schools(Interim).Standards on teachers' information qualities in(Teaching Skill [2018] No.5)Document shows: the ability of leading students in information contests and activities and offering professional guidance has become a new information quality requirement for teachers engaged in maker education and comprehensive practices.As subjects keep moving towards integration with real educational scenes,many teachers of information technology and teachers of subjects such as science,math,chemistry,biology,generic technology and comprehensive practices are undertaking contests and activities related to information technology at school across subjects,presenting current status of “fever with practices and scarcity of researches”.A survey of information contests has found that students' motive in taking part in the contests has a significant influence on the results of contests.Therefore,focusing on this issue,it has become the aim of this research to start from students' motive of taking part in the contests and find out effective instructing strategies for teachers.First of all,ARCS motive model is selected as the theoretical reference for entering information contests and offering guidance on site,and a motive questionnaire on students' motive of taking part in information contests has been designed,aimed at understanding students' basic motive of taking part in the contests,and further analyze the factors affecting students' participation in information contests and their reasons of scoring good or bad performance.Meanwhile,the research makes use of ARCS Motive Model as a blueprint in formulating an interview outline of the methods and strategies adopted by instructors of information contests,aimed at discovering and extracting excellent instructors' instructing experience,so as to offer strategic reference to the guidance of information contests by teachers in middle schools.Secondly,through a questionnaire survey on students taking part in the contests,four problems are found,respectively,students present a strong wish to make efforts subjectively in the contests but it is difficult to sustain their interest in the contests;students tend to set high aims for taking part in contests,but it is difficult to link up the content of training with the requirements of the contests;students have strong confidence but they are easily disturbed;students have excellent performance in contests but suffer from weak sense of self-identification.Students' motive of taking part in the contests is easily affected by the strength of publicizing information on contests by teachers,the way of instruction by teachers,teachers' way of cultivating students' self-confidence and the summary and evaluation of teachers;through extraction of instruction experience from excellent instructors,it is found that teachers can make efforts in terms of the four dimensions of changing the way of publicity,deepening students' knowledge of the contests,setting multi-step tasks,centering on solving life problems,improving students' overall abilities,developing their inner confidence,setting up evaluation system and setting various rewards to improve their level of instructing information contests,and finally contribute to improving students' information creativity and application ability and their performance in contests.In the end,the research combines analysis on the factors motivating students in middle school to take part in information contests,extraction of instruction guidance from excellent teachers and analysis on the instruction strategies of excellent teachers,puts forward strategies for teachers of middle schools to instruct information contests based on ARCS Motive Model,so as to offer a new direction to the professional development of instructors of information contests in middle schools.Due to the limitation of research time and cycle,more exploration and efforts are needed to further copy and verify the strategies proposed in the research,which will also become the direction of further practice in this research.
