College students are the country's enormously valuable human resources,shouldering the hope of the nation and the future of the People's Republic of China.It is the most fundamental mission and important responsibility of every university to reinforce the ideological and moral education of college students,improve their moral level and various professional skills,and cultivate them into builders and successors of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Counselors are the main force of ideological,moral and political education for college students.They are important mentors for their academic guidance and employment guidance,and the people who accompany students the most in their college life.The professional quality and skills of college counselors are related to the growth and development of every college student.Applying the competency model,assisted by the author's seven-year work experience as a counselor,this paper investigates the competency of counselors in Z college by conducting a survey to all the counselors and more than 500 students in the college.The research makes statistical analysis with SPSS data processing software,and obtains the competency level of Z college with auxiliary literature research method and behavior event interview method.The statistical results show that the average scores of all factors in the counselor questionnaire are basically consistent,indicating that the counselors' competency level is good,but the overall score is lower than the average score of the student questionnaire.According to the survey results,this paper puts forward work improvement suggestions for the student management department of Z college and the counselors themselves.The administration department should adjust the selection and employment standards of new counselors,establish a systematic training mechanism,and improve the professional skills of counselors.Besides,it should strictly assess,strengthen incentives,improve welfare benefits,and establish a professional title evaluation system according to the characteristics of counselors.In addition,it should also coordinate and guide each department scientifically,establish a student information database,simplify the counselor's work,mobilize senior counsellors and understand the needs of counsellors timely.Counselors should establish professional confidence,stick to learning,and constantly improve professional skills and self-cultivation.It is hoped that this paper can provide a professional paradigm for the recruitment and training of counselors in Z college,and help to improve counselors' professional skills in practical work.
