Biology experiments,the important part of biology curriculum,is of great significance for improving students’ scientific inquiry ability,cultivating students’ ability to raise problems independently,dealing with biological problems and comprehensively training scientific inquiry ability.The POE teaching strategy’ is evolved from the research method based on students’ understanding of science.The use of POE teaching strategy can effectively cultivate students’ inquiry ability,stimulate students’ interest in learning,and strengthen students’ ability to explain scientific phenomena and scientific principles using their original knowledge.In this study,the POE teaching strategy was applied to the experimental teaching of biology to explore the effects of POE strategy on cultivating students’ scientific inquiry ability and improving students’ academic performance in biology.The paper firstly analyzes the relevant theoretical research and application status of scientific inquiry ability training and POE teaching strategies by combing and reading literature materials,and expounds the feasibility of application of POE teaching strategies in high school biology experimental teaching from the theoretical level to promote the cultivation of students’ scientific inquiry ability.comprehensively adopt the educational experimental research method and the questionnaire survey method,design the POE structured learning worksheet,based on the POE teaching strategy,according to different types of biological experiments,respectively,carry out teaching design and apply to teaching practice.Two classes of the similar experimental level in grade one of a high school in Nanjing city were selected as the research objects,with one class used POE strategy for experimental teaching as the experimental group,and the other class used the conventional teaching method as the control group.The POE teaching experiment of the type experiment explores its application effect in the teaching of biology experiment from the aspects of scientific inquiry ability,biological learning performance,and students’ learning experience of POE teaching strategies.Through the comparative analysis of the experimental class and the control class,The following results can be obtained:(1)POE teaching strategies can improve students’ scientific inquiry ability to ask questions and predict the direction,and students’ learning attitude towards POE teaching strategies is positive.(2)POE teaching strategy can improve students’ interest in learning biology to a certain extent.(3)The use of POE teaching strategies in high school biology experiment teaching is beneficial to improve students’ biology test scores.
