A Comparative Study On The Content Of Complex Numbers In High School Mathematics Textbooks In China,Korea,America And Britain

Mathematics textbooks are important teaching resources to realize the goals of mathematics courses and develop students' core competencies in mathematics.By studying the content and methods of compiling mathematics textbooks at home and abroad,we can discover the compiling features and teaching value of different versions of textbooks,and provide reference for the compiling and perfecting of textbooks and teachers' teaching in our country.This study selected four high school mathematics textbooks of Chinese PEP A Version(2019 Version),Korean Future N Version(2018 Version),American Pearson Version(2015 Version)and British Cambridge Version(2018 Version).The content is compared and studied from four aspects: style structure,course content,examples and exercises and mathematical culture,aiming to provide inspiration for the compilation and improvement of complex number content in Chinese textbooks,and to provide reference for mathematics teachers to teach complex numbers.This study uses literature analysis,content analysis and comparative analysis,and draws the following conclusions through qualitative comparison and quantitative analysis:(1)Style structure: In terms of chapter structure,the chapter style design of the Future N version of the textbook is well-designed,and the column setting of the Cambridge version of the textbook is relatively monotonous.In the arrangement of chapter headers,the chapter headers of the PEP A and Future N editions reflect the importance of learning complex numbers,the chapter headers of the Cambridge version reflect the application of complex numbers,and the Pearson version of the textbook does not have a chapter header.The content of chapter introductions in the Future N version textbook will be more abundant,including the history of mathematics,learning objectives,and chapter catalogues.In terms of narration arrangement,the Future N version of the textbook will focus on the diversified arrangement of narration and the broadening of students' horizons.The narration of the PEP A and Pearson edition of the textbook will focus on inspiring students to think,and the narration of the Cambridge version of the textbook will help students understand important information.In the arrangement of the chapter summary,the chapter summary of the PEP A and Future N editions pay attention to the content structure of this chapter,and the chapter summary of the Pearson and Cambridge textbooks focus on the core knowledge points learned in this chapter.(2)Course content: In terms of content structure,the structure of the plural content of the Cambridge version of the textbook is the most complete,and the structure of the plural content of the Future N and Pearson version of the textbook is relatively weak.In terms of content presentation,the four editions of textbooks all focus on the introduction process of mathematical concepts.The difference is that the PEP A and the Future N editions focus on the timely consolidation of the concepts learned and the introduction and derivation of mathematical principles.Pearson and the Cambridge version of the textbook focuses on the integrated application of the concepts learned and the application process of mathematical principles.(3)Examples and exercises: in terms of example questions,the Cambridge version of the textbook has the largest number of examples,and the Future N version textbook examples will be presented in a single way.The four editions of textbook examples all focus on cultivating students' mathematical calculation ability.In terms of exercises,the Pearson version of the textbook has the largest number of exercises,the PEP A version of the textbook has more types of exercises,and the Cambridge version of the textbook has the most difficult exercises.(4)Mathematical culture: The Future N version of textbooks will contain the largest amount and the highest level of application.The Chinese-Korean-English three editions have the most content in the history of mathematics,while the Pearson edition has no content in the history of mathematics.Most of the mathematics culture in the PEP A and Cambridge version textbooks are distributed in the non-text columns.Most of the mathematics culture in the Future N version textbooks will be distributed in the narration and non-text columns,and the Pearson version of the textbooks will be distributed in the exercise column.According to the above research conclusions,some proposals are proposed on the compilation of textbooks and teachers' teaching,and a teaching case is designed by taking the "Expansion of the Number System and the Concept of Complex Numbers" in the textbook of the PEP A version,trying to implement teaching suggestions into teaching practice,so as to provide some enlightenment for front-line teachers to carry out plural teaching.
