Abstract/Summary:
Map is not only the second language of geography, but also a powerful tool in geography learning.Using maps to learn geography, abstract and complex knowledge will become intuitive and simple, and help to cultivate students’ spatial thinking.Through the observation and analysis of geographical images, students’ ability to summarize and summarize geographical laws will be improved, and their interest and passion in geographical learning will also be enhanced. The cultivation of map ability is helpful for teachers to guide students to give full play to their subjective initiative, integrate theory with practice, and cultivate students’ operation and application ability. Therefore, map plays an important role in geography. The geography curriculum standard for senior high school(2017 Edition)pays more attention to the cultivation of students’ core literacy. It has repeatedly mentioned the use of schematic diagrams to explain the principle, significance and influence of certain geographical things. The cultivation of map reading ability is also receiving more and more attention in geography education. At present, there are still some problems in senior high school geography education in China, and it is difficult for students to learn geography, especially in the understanding, understanding and application of geographical images. Many studies have shown that senior one students’ mastery of geographical knowledge is relatively low,and their understanding of geographical images is not comprehensive. In addition, some students lack interest in map reading, basic knowledge is weak, spatial imagination is poor, and attention is not enough,so they are lack of map reading ability. Therefore,it has become an important research topic to investigate the current situation of geography map reading ability of senior one students in the way of simulation test, evaluate and analyze, find out the existing problems, and put forward strategies to improve the ability of map reading.Based on the related concepts of improving the ability of geographic reading ability, the research adopts the literature, survey, observation and quantitative analysis method. The theoretical bases of the research are geography teaching, cognitive structure theory and constructivism.Having testing students’ geography reading ability, the author evaluated and analyzed the results. The current problems of high school students in reading map are obtained, and coping strategies are proposed. After studying the current situation of the geography reading ability of some students in Weibin Middle School, the following conclusions are obtained:(1)High school students are poor in geography reading ability. The scores of most students are below 60 points, and the map cognitive ability, map comprehension, and map application ability are relatively low.Among them, the map application ability is not high.(2)There are individual differences in students’ ability of read geographic maps.According to the test results, few students who have achieved good grades,on the contrary, some have achieved poor grades.Individual differences in the same class are obvious.(3)Students have weak basic knowledge and poor spatial imagination. It is difficult to extract useful information from abstract images in book 1.They usually ignore the construction of three-dimensional spatial structure, and lack for the ability of comprehension and understanding.(4)Some teachers adopt improper teaching methods and don’t pay special attention to geographic images. As a result, their class lack for geographic images and learning guidance.Meanwhile, students’ active role position are also ignored. In view of the above problems, this paper puts forward some strategies to improve the geography map reading ability of senior one students in senior high school geography teaching: the teacher could improve students’ interest in reading pictures by using Internet and multimedia, finding a variety of learning channels, and create a picture-reading environment for students to improve cognitive ability of reading maps; The students could improve map comprehension ability by understanding geographic concepts and analyzing the connections 、characteristics and causes of geographic elements; The teacher could further cultivate students’ ability of using maps in their life and consolidate their map application ability through creating situations and connecting students’ life with geography learning.
