The Natural Environment Teaching is a student-centered,activity-based teaching method that creates teaching situations to cultivate students’ cognition based on their interests.Triple representation is a kind of thinking about the internal connection of triple representation formed by brain processing of macroscopic phenomena, microscopic phenomena and symbolic phenomena. At present, the focus of junior high school chemistry experiment teaching is often placed on the mastery of students’ essential knowledge and the training of experimental skills, with insufficient attention paid to the cultivation of students’ macro and micro chemical scientific thinking. This study uses the NET model to optimize junior high school chemistry experiment teaching and develop students’ triple representation thinking, with a view to providing new ideas for cultivating students’ triple representation thinking in junior high school chemistry experiment teaching.First, this study reviewed and compiled domestic and foreign research on NET and the triple representation of chemistry through the literature research method.Guided by the cognitive theory of accommodation and assimilation, the theory of behaviorism, and the theory of developmental evaluation, the NET model proposed by Mark G.Goldin was analyzed and corrections were made to address issues such as the lack of description of specific links in the model. Also,a junior high school chemistry experiment teaching model based on the NET model to cultivate students’ chemical triple representation thinking was constructed, and the specific process and design principles were explained. Then, three topics of "Reaction of Magnesium and Air","Water Purification",and "Properties of Carbon Dioxide"were selected from the Textbook of Chemistry for Compulsory Education(Grade 9,Book 1(PEP)).The teaching design was carried out from the perspectives of mobilizing students’ interest in learning, strengthening students’ macroscopic experience, and enhancing microscopic visualization through the reasonable use of microscopic models, and was put into practice in a junior high school in Zhongwei City, with the teaching situation being reflected. Finally, the investigation and analysis were carried out on the analysis of students’ classroom behaviors, students’ knowledge testing,teacher-student questionnaires and related teacher-student interviews. The research results show that the junior high school chemistry experiment teaching based on the NET can effectively mobilize students’ learning initiative.Throughout the teaching process, students made use of multiple senses such as listening, doing and watching to learn chemistry vividly and lively.First, students were able to increase macroscopic experience by doing experiments and watching macroscopic experimental videos.Secondly, the ability of visualizing the microscopic world was enhanced by watching microscopic videos as well as ball-and-stick interpretation of chemical reactions. Finally, writing relevant chemical equations or chemical formulae made students appreciate the mediating role of chemical equations. This step-by-step approach guided students from perceptual macroscopic understanding to rational microscopic understanding, fostering the formation of students’triple representation thinking in junior high school. The model of junior high school chemistry experiment teaching based on the NET to cultivate students’ triple representation thinking is feasible.
