Rumor Clarifying Strategies Considering Restrain Costs In Online Social Networks

With the rapid development of Internet technology and mobile terminal equipment,online social networks(OSN)have become an indispensable platform for people to communicate and share information,and play a vital role in government affairs,medical care,transportation,education and other fields.In recent years,the dissemination of information in OSN has changed from "word of mouth" to " word of text "," word of voice" and " word of video " and so on.More and more users take Facebook,Twitter,WeChat,Sina Weibo and other large OSN platform as an important source of information.However,various OSN platforms have brought great convenience to people for information sharing and communication and interaction,and also become an important carrier for rumor breeding and spreading,thus bringing negative impacts on people's lives and even the whole society.For example,the spread of rumors in OSN can mislead people's correct cognition of things and even trigger public panic in the context of specific events.At the same time,the frequent occurrence of emergencies also provides an opportunity for the breeding and spreading of rumor.such as the child abuse incident in Beijing's Red,Yellow and Blue Kindergarten in 2017,and the Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19)epidemic this year and so on,which all triggered numerous rumors and seriously affected social stability.There is no doubt that the spread of rumor in OSN has become a widespread phenomenon,which has brought huge security threats.Therefore,how to effectively channel and control the spreading process of rumor in OSN and minimize the negative impact of rumor is not only a practical problem to be solved urgently by the managers of online social network platforms and relevant government departments,but also a research field of public security and crisis management.All the above emergencies have triggered numerous rumors and seriously disturbed the normal social order.There is no doubt that the spread of rumors in OSN has become a common phenomenon and may bring serious negative effects to the whole society.Therefore,how to effectively channel and control the spreading process of rumor in OSN and minimize the negative impact of rumor is not only a practical problem to be solved urgently by the managers of online social network platforms and relevant government departments,but also a research field of public security and crisis management.For this reason,this paper establishes a dynamic linear threshold rumor propagation model called DLTRS in OSN,which considers both the overall popularity of information and individual propagation tendency,to a more real simulation of the OSN information transmission process.Based on this model,a rumor clarification algorithm called RCCR is designed,which takes into account the rumor suppression cost,such as the truth propagation time,number of seed nodes,and information content.Then,this paper uses the network data sets WS,BA,random network,and real OSN network data sets Epinions,Facebook,Twitter,Sina Weibo,Zhihu,etc.,to carry out simulation experiments on the rumor propagation model and rumor clarification algorithm proposed,to explore the rumor suppression effect of rumor clarification algorithm,and further analyze the effect of parameter changes on the algorithm Performance impact.Experimental results show that:1)Compared with Random seeds(RS)algorithm and Degree algorithm,the rumor clarification algorithm(RCCR)proposed in this paper,which based on DLTRS model,can reduce the proportion of infected nodes in OSN to the greatest extent,that is,has a better rumor suppression effect;2)we explored the user state transition process in OSN under the rumor clarification algorithm(RCCR),and found that users in OSN often changed their views on a certain thing.It can be seen that people's views and opinions on an event or news always transform with the change of external environment and individual cognition,which is also more consistent with the real world;3)the influences of seed quantity,information credibility and rumor spreading time on the performance of the rumor clarification algorithm(RCCR)is explored respectively and it is found that the improvement of seed quantity,information credibility and rumor propagation time all have positive effects on rumor restrain effect in OSN;4)the influence of memory mechanism on the rumor spreading process under the rumor clarification algorithm(RCCR)is explored,and it is found that the memory enhancement effect caused by the increase of the interaction times and the importance of information plays a positive role in restraining the rumor spread in OSN;However,the memory weakening effect caused by the increase in the incidence of subjective memory decline and the rate of forgetting affects the restrain effect of rumor spreading in OSN to some extent.Experimental results show that the RCCR algorithm proposed in this paper has good rumor suppression performance.Further analysis of the simulation results show that when the public emergency with great impact on the society occurs,the official government or department should timely refute rumors in OSN,and improve the suppression effect of rumor information on rumors from three levels of time,space and information,so as to effectively reduce the negative impact caused by the large-scale spread of rumors.
