The Carnival Theory was put forward in the 1960 s by Bakhtin,a famous thinker and literary commentator in the former Soviet Union in his representative works?Problems of Dostoevsky's poetics? and ?The work of Francois Rabelais and the folk culture of the Middle Ages and Renaissance?.This theory mainly includes three core concepts: carnival, carnival rite and carnivalization.According to Bakhtin, carnival is an objectively existing folklore phenomenon in the history of Western culture. At the carnival, people are temporarily freed from the bondage of hierarchy. They can talk freely, not be rigid about appearance, and joke with each other.Bakhtin called the summation of etiquette and form of carnival-style celebrations “carnival rite”.The carnivalization of literature is to transform the “carnival rite” into the expression of literary language. In recent years,Carnival Theory has been paid more and more attention by scholars and has become one of the most frequently used theories in contemporary literary theories and cultural studies.Venedikt Erofeev(1938-1990)was a famous writer in the Soviet period. His representative work ?Moscow-Petushki? is considered to be the first work of postmodernist literature in Russia. The pioneering work has had a profound impact on the development of contemporary Russian literature. The novel tells the story of a hard-drinking intellectual who gets fired from his job and takes a train from Moscow to Visit his lover and son in Petushki.Due to alcoholism, the hero's journey was full of surprises,he did not make it to the end,but returned to Moscow, where he was brutally murdered by four unknown men.The carnival character images, storylines, themes and narrative of this book have attracted the attention of many literary critics.Erofeev's ?Moscow-Petushki? is very consistent with Bakhtin's carnivalization theory in many aspects. Therefore, from the perspective of Bakhtin's carnivalization theory, this paper uses the methods of literature collection, induction and summary and text analysis to study the carnivalization characteristics of the characters, plot and ideological theme of this work.On this basis, this paper analyzes the carnival narration carried out by the author to show these characteristics from three aspects(narrative mode, narrative technique and narrative miscellaneous language),and comes to the conclusion that work ?Moscow-Petushki? is a highly Carnival work.
