Zen Buddhism was introduced into China from Dharma until huineng,the sixth a ncestor,began to flourish and became the mainstream of Chinese Buddhism in the mi ddle and late Tang Dynasty.Later,it was introduced to Japan and other Asian countrie s from China.In the early years after World War II,Japanese zen master Suzuki Dazu o's introduction to Zen was widely circulated in the West.Under the worship of Jung,Fromm and Heidegger,Zen has become a cultural phenomenon and ideological trend in the world.Zen has injected new content into the history of Western thought,which has transformed the whole history of Western culture.By the 1950 s,there was an outb reak of "Zen fever" in different sectors of Western society.After being exposed to Suz uki's Zen thoughts,musician John Cage took direct action in music creation and broug ht revolution to Western music.Not only that,Cage directly influenced the art world with his artistic ideas,and zen aesthetic thoughts made the American art world set off a revolution like a storm wave,which spread to the West and even the world.Since the 1950 s,western art genres have emerged and changed with each passing day.On the surface of complex art forms,artists have changed their artistic concepts.It ca n be said that the influence of Zen on western thought and culture is its important inter nal factor.The pop art movement,which rose in Britain and the United States in the 1950 s,created a whole new kind of art.
