Abstract/Summary:
Researches in cultural psychology and wisdom psychology have shown that different types of self-construal may have different effects on the level of wisdom reasoning. The level of wisdom reasoning is reduced by the influence of self-centeredness,while the interdependent self-construal shows a cognitive style of context-dependence,and is more "other-centered".However,previous studies have neither direct empirical research nor further discussion of its influence mechanism. Therefore,on the basis of summarizing previous studies, this research uses measurement and experimental methods, combined with the conflict situation research paradigm of wisdom reasoning, through two studies, systematically investigated whether self-construal has an impact on wisdom reasoning;and in the follow-up research Further discusses its influence mechanism from a cognitive perspective. In the first study, using the measurement method, the Self-Construal Scale and the adapted Situated Wise Reasoning Scale were used as the main tools to compare the differences in the wisdom scores of subjects with different self-construal scores in conflict situations between themselves and others. The results show that: the stronger the subject’s tendency to interdependence, the higher the level of wisdom reasoning.Study 2 used experimental methods and combined the methods of "circle pronouns" and "task initiation" to initiate different self-construal of the subjects, and examine the differences in their wisdom scores in the context of their own/friends’ lovers cheating. The results show that: Regardless of whether in conflict situations of self or others, the score of the interdependent self-priming group is higher than that of the independent self-priming group. The wisdom score of the independent selfpriming group in the conflict situation of others was higher than that of the self-conflicting situation;while the wisdom score of the interdependent self-priming group in the two situations was not significantly different.Study 3 used experimental methods to activate the subject’s context-independent/contextdependent cognitive styles. These two cognitive styles are typical thinking styles of independent self-construal/interdependent self-construal.Later,the adapted Situational Wisdom Reasoning Scale was used to compare the differences between the two typical cognitive styles in different conflict situations. The results show that when the context-independent cognitive style is activated, the subjects are more wisdom in the conflict situation of others than in their own conflict situation;when the context-dependent cognitive style is activated, the wisdom reasoning level in the two conflict situations is higher, and There is no difference. Finally, this study discussed the relationship between self-construal and wisdom reasoning, and came to two main conclusions:(1)There are differences in the level of individual wisdom reasoning of different self-construal.Specifically,individuals with interdependent self-construal have a higher level of wisdom reasoning in their own conflict situations than individuals with independent selfconstrual;there is no significant difference between the level of wisdom reasoning in the conflict situations of others and individuals with independent self-construal,and both are higher.(2)From the perspective of cognitive style, the interdependent self pays more attention to others and the situation and exhibits a cognitive style of context-dependence,so the level of wisdom reasoning is higher;the independent self pays more attention to itself, ignores the situation, and exhibits a cognitive style of context-independence,so the level of wisdom reasoning is low.
