Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang are outstanding modern Chinese philosophers and historians of philosophy. They are full of enthusiasm for Chinese philosophy and have dedicated their lives to it.They have profound insights into the basic spirit of Chinese philosophy and have unique methods for constructing the history of Chinese philosophy.Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang Xun's view of learning is based on their view of Chinese philosophy, that is,the interpretation of the spirit and basic methods of Chinese philosophy.By comparing Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang's interpretation of the basic spirit of Chinese philosophy, this paper explains their different grasp of the characteristics of Chinese philosophy;the whole idea. The core of this article is to dig out the deep reasons by comparing the two different views on Xun Xue.Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang have diametrically opposed attitudes towards Xun Xue,one is mainly praise, the other is mainly condemned. It reflects not only their views on Xun Xue and even Confucianism, but also the different views of mainland,Hong Kong and Taiwan scholars on the future development of Confucianism and even Chinese philosophy. The study of Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang's view of Xun Xue is not only related to Xun Xue,Confucianism, the spirit of Chinese philosophy, etc.,but also to the choice of the way of writing the history of Chinese philosophy at present and in the future. In recent years, there have been some voices dispelling the discipline of Chinese philosophy history. They prefer to use Chinese language to interpret Chinese thought, that is,"interpreting Chinese with Chinese",believing that only in this way can the characteristics of Chinese philosophy become more prominent. While there is some truth to this view,it is not impeccable."Interpreting China with the West" is one of the signs that the history of Chinese philosophy has moved away from the general academic history and moved toward independence and modernization, and Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang's writings on the history of Chinese philosophy also adopted this interpretation method. After the founding of the People's Republic of China,Feng Youlan tried to interpret Chinese philosophy with the framework of Marxist philosophy, and scholars in Hong Kong and Taiwan continued the way of "interpreting China with the West" or "Inter-interpreting China and the West".Whether it is "interpreting China with the West" or "interpreting China with the West" or "interpreting China with horses",they are all signs of the modernization of Chinese philosophy. So,does the discipline of the history of Chinese philosophy still have value? On the basis of reflecting on the three paradigms of writing the history of Chinese philosophy,"using the west to interpret the Chinese","using the horse to interpret the Chinese",and "using the Chinese to interpret the Chinese",what choices should we make? Here are some questions to ponder. This paper helps to answer these questions by comparing Feng Youlan and Lao Siguang's views on Xun Xue.
