Enduring Uncertainty: Deportation, Punishment And Everyday Life (Chapter 2) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

With the development of global integration,international interactions have become more and more frequent.In order to ensure the interests of countries and people,the translation of legal texts has become an important task.The translated text is the second chapter of Enduring Uncertainty: Deportation,Punishment and Everyday Life.This text introduces the appeal through dialogues with the appellants and demonstrates the problems in appealing process from the perspective of appellants.The translation difficulties mainly come from dealing with positive and negative sentences,sentences with inanimate subjects and dashes.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western thoughts,negation and transferred negation can be used to improve the fluency of the translation.However,inanimate subjects often appear in English,which is different from the language habits of Chinese.In order to ensure the readability of the translated text,recasting translation,inversion and cutting can be used.For the sake of making the translation smooth and natural,omission,amplification and conservation can be used to deal with dashes in this text.This translation practice report aims to provide reference value for the translation of the same type of texts.
