The study tour in the Southern Dynasties is an indispensable part of the educational history of the Southern Dynasties.It is a bridge of academic continuity between Jin Dynasty and Tang Dynasty.It is helpful to understand the deep reasons for the prosperity of Liang Dynasty culture and the changes of election system and education system in Sui and Tang Dynasties.Because of the contradiction between the royal family and the noble family,and the contradiction within the royal family,the rulers needed to cultivate and obtain the support of the lower gentry and civilians.The further development of Jiangnan economy has provided the economic conditions for the study tour.The change of official selection policy and economy promoted the lower class to improve their status by studying tour.Government run schools are important places for study tours,but the central area is still run by private schools.Jian Kang,the capital,has become the most important study destination.Kuai Ji,Wu Jun,Wu Xing,Lu Jiang and other areas are also prominent study tour centers due to their developed economy and culture.In addition to the traditional Confucianism,there were metaphysics,Buddhism,Taoism,literature,history,astronomy,calligraphy and painting.The lower gentry and the common people were able to enter the official career smoothly by studying tour,which promoted their social status or realized the stratum transformation from the common people to the gentry.Being an official is the main purpose of study tour.Besides,there are also study tour without utilitarianism.The prosperity of study tours in the Southern Dynasties promoted the improvement of the education system,the communication of culture,and the improvement of the way of living.
