The History of design in Nigeria has over the years been undocumented.Design education in Nigeria has also not been institutionalized.This creates a gap in the study and research of design in Nigeria.There are also many successful design pioneers from Nigeria whose works have not been researched and documented.This research paper looks into the design sector in Nigeria and focuses on the music cover art designs of Lemi Ghariokwu.Lemi Ghariokwu is one of Nigeria's most internationally successful graphic design pioneer.The paper discusses Lemis Ghariokwus biography,his early life and introduction into arts and design,his meetup up with the Afro beat legend Fela Kuti at a young age and how this meeting helped shaped his Ideologies and the roles these ideologies played in his music cover art design career.It organizes Lemi Ghariokwus music cover design artworks into three Eras and studies the works in these Eras.The Paper discusses the development of Lemi Ghariokwus cover art design style,up until the present day and the development and contribution to the art genre Afro art beat.It discusses the characteristics,visual style,and achievements of Lemi Gharikokwus artworks.It also studies the social characteristics,influence and significance of Lemi Ghariokwus artworks at home and abroad.The study of Lemi Ghariokwus cover design works is a way to shed more light upon the graphic design industry in Nigeria and its unique styles.It aims to make a modest contribution to the academic body of work on design in Nigeria,and to inspire more academic research and documentation on the design industry in Nigeria.
