Vocabulary teaching,at present,is an important part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.However,some learners,especially those at the elementary level,mostly suffer from a lack of vocabulary in the process of vocabulary learning,and have more difficulties in the recognition and use of words.Semantic field theory,which originated and developed in foreign countries,is a theory about semantic research,focusing on the connection between word meanings.When it was first introduced to China,it was mostly used in teaching vocabulary in English as a second language.Compared with the traditional vocabulary teaching method,there is still a need to conduct a lot of empirical research on the effect of applying semantic field theory to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,especially the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language at the elementary level.Based on the above,this paper studied the teaching of elementary vocabulary in Chinese as a foreign language based on semantic field theory,using a second semester class at the Confucius Institute of National University of Laos as an example.An 8-week teaching experiment was conducted in this study.First,the study clarified the purpose of the experiment,selected the experimental subjects through pre-testing,and proceeded to analyze the teaching vocabulary and design the teaching process.Next,the experiment was conducted with 23 students in each of two classes in the second semester of the Confucius Institute at the National University of Laos.The experimental post-test results and the students’ attitudes toward the semantic field theory-based vocabulary teaching were analyzed,and it was concluded that the semantic field theory-based vocabulary teaching for Chinese elementary students could help students memorize words quickly,expand their vocabulary size,and improve the efficiency of vocabulary memorization.Furthermore,most of the students recognized this teaching method more than others.Finally,this study made a preliminary evaluation of the teaching of elementary Chinese vocabulary for foreigners based on semantic field theory based on the experimental results and the practical problems encountered in the process of experimentation,and objectively analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of this vocabulary teaching model,including making teaching suggestions to provide reference for the teaching of elementary Chinese vocabulary in Laos and to provide a supplement to the Chinese elementary vocabulary teaching method. |
