The history of the British Royal collection can be traced back to the early Renaissance, and with the development of the times, there has been a change from privileged to public.Dumfries House, located in East Ayrshire,Scotland, retains the original appearance of the 18th-century British aristocratic manor. It was acquired by Prince Charles and incorporated into the collection system of the British Royal family.Under the leadership of Prince Charles, the public-facing Dumfries House developed into a cultural industry that led East Ayrshire to urban regeneration. From the perspective of cultural industry, this article analyzes the protection and restoration of Dumfries House, public display, education and training, and activation, and explores how the cultural heritage collected by the royal family can become a cultural industry, inject vitality into the economy, culture and communities of East Ayrshire, which in turn promotes a culturally-oriented revival of the declining industrial city.Culture is the life of a city, and cultural heritage is a precious resource of a city. The cultural industry is now regarded as an important way for sustainable urban development in the context of de-industrialization.Based on the case study of Dumfries House, this article provides ideas for the development of cultural industries in the city from aspects such as the protection and development of cultural heritage, celebrity IP,government support and culture-led regeneration.
