Grain production is related to the stability and development of society. It has always been valued by the government and all walks of life, and it has always been an important research topic in economics. The traditional major economic growth theories have not incorporated the institutions into its growth model for various reasons, but the new institutional economics school has established a theoretical system related to the institutions and economic growth. After the reform and opening up,China has continuously promoted changes in the rural economic system and stimulated the potential of grain production in accordance with the outstanding problems faced by grain production at different stages.China's grain production has made great progress.Summarizing the relationship between the changes in the rural economic system and grain production during this period and the experience of grain production are of great benefit to the current rural economic system reform and the development of grain production. In the context of the 40 th anniversary of reform and opening up,this article explores the relationship between the changes in China's rural economic system and fgrain production. This article divides the evolution of China's rural economic system from 1979 to 2018 into four stages to explain it,and uses the theory of institutional change to analyze the reasons, motivations, and costs and benefits of the changes in the rural economic system. Finally, use China's inter-provincial panel data from 1979 to 2018 to quantitatively analyze the relationship between China's rural economic system changes and grain production. The conclusion is that the changes in the rural economic system change the level of incentives for farmers, which in turn affects the grain sown area, the input of chemical fertilizers and the total power of machinery, and affects farmers' grain production methods and grain output.Quantitative analysis shows that the input of material elements such as planting area and chemical fertilizers has a stable impact on grain production and has a greater impact, while the role of mechanical power under different systems is quite different. The household contract responsibility system, the grain circulation system, and the financial support for agriculture have a significant impact on grain output. The separation of rural land ownership has not yet obvious impact on grain production. As the main body of grain production, farmers' enthusiasm for grain production is directly related to grain income, and the system's incentives to farmers should be improved through institutional changes in a timely manner.Under current conditions,we should further deepen the reform of the rural economic system, encourage land transfer and moderate-scale agricultural operations, increase the scale effect and efficiency of grain production, and promote increased grain production and farmers' income.
