A Study On The Category Of Turkmen Languages

As one of the most important categories of linguistic typology,the category of evidentiality is a universal grammatical category of information sources in languages.According to the corpus that the author collected from Turkmen literary publications and reference materials,the official news sites and a part of the interview corpus,this paper gives an in-depth description and analysis of the category of evidentiality of Turkmen language,induces the type of evidentiality of Turkmen language from the perspective of linguistic typology,generalizes its grammatical markers,and makes a further discussion on the relevant issues of the evidentiality of Turkmen language,summarizes the type characteristics of the categories of Turkmen language,so as to deepen the understanding and research of the category of evidentiality of Turkmen language.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The first part of this chapter mainly introduces the research object,the significance and the theoretical background of the study,as well as the methods adopted in the research,together with the sources of corpus,the gains and difficulties of the study.The second part mainly introduces the category of evidentiality and its main characteristics.The classification of the category of evidentiality in both narrow sense and broad sense and the relationship between the category of evidentiality and the category of modality are also discussed in this part.Then,a review is made on the main achievements of the research about the category of evidentiality at home and abroad,especially those about Turkic languages of the Altaic family and other related issues.The second chapter follows the analysis and description principle of the functional linguistics combined with language typology,i.e.the function-typology method,and in-depth describes and analyzes different types of corpus,which mainly focuses on the functional grammatical markers of the evidentiality of Turkmen language-ypdyr/-ipdir,-mys/-mis,-an/-en and evidential preposition eken and their semantic features and functions as semantics and function as its starting point.In addition,the issues such as the distribution of the evidentiality of Turkmen language,evidentiality and parenthesis as well as issues about temporal-aspect are also analyzed preliminarily in this paper.The third chapter makes a further discussion on the relevant issues of Turkmen evidentiality,mainly involving the issues of evidentiality and modality,evidentiality and pragmatics,and the historical evolution of evidential markers,so as to deepen the understanding of the grammatical category of evidentiality of Turkmen language.The fourth chapter presents a summary about the whole paper and generalization about the main viewpoints and conclusions in this paper.Then,specific explanations on the problems that are solved in this paper as well as the issues that needs to be further studied are made.
