Creative works based on the subject of goddess of Luo have been widely existed in the areas of poetry,painting,fiction,drama and so on since the Spring and Autumn Period.“Ode to the Goddess of the Luo River” was written in 223 AD by Caozhi who was a famous poet.Then artist Gu Kaizhi turned the image of goddess Luo into a picture.After that calligrapher Wang Xianzhi wrote “Thirteen Lines for Goddess Luo” according to the beauty of goddess Luo.These three great artists who came from different fields shaped the early images of goddess Luo in literature,painting and calligraphy.The image of goddess which was shaped by Wei Jiuding from Yuan Dynasty well matched with Ni Zan and displayed the ideal pursuit of the image of goddess Luo among the literati in Yuan Dynasty,opening a new way of interpretation for later generations.After that,on the one hand the “The Figure of the Goddess of the Luo River” through the ages followed the tradition,and on the other hand it changed along with the society and culture situations of that time.Therefore,the image of Luo constantly evolved.This evolution not only inherits the old interpretation but also interacts with the new interpretation,which becomes the main force of the development of The Figure of the Goddess of the Luo River and attracts more people to join the creation of this traditional subject.This article,which is divided into five chapters,narrates the evolution of the image of Luo in “The Figure of the Goddess of the Luo River” in the past dynasties.Chapter One summarizes the evolution of the image of goddess Luo in the history of ancient Chinese literature.In order to pave the way for the follow-up study,it also sums up “The Figure of the Goddess of the Luo River” in Song Dynasty,Yuan Dynasty,Ming Dynasty,Qing Dynasty and the pieces since the 20 th century.Chapter Two analyzes the copies of “The Painting of Ode to the Goddess in the Luo River”from Song Dynasty and “The Figure of the Goddess of the Luo River” by Wei Jiuding from Yuan Dynasty from the social and cultural background and derives the underlying reasons for the transformation of Luo's image.Chapter Three depicts the transmission and evolution of the image of Luo in the royal court,business and literary circles.Chapter Four shows the modern turning after entering the 20 th century and the reasons behind it.Chapter Five analyzes the evolution of the image of Luo in contemporary digital paintings and comics and lists the images of goddess Luo from other art forms,such as flower and bird paintings,handicrafts and so on.
