From February 22,2018 to December 22 of the same year,the author taught Chinese in Center for Chinese Studies at Texas Southern University.Combined with the teaching practice and research direction,the author obtained a lot of fresh first-hand information about the usage of Chinese MV in Chinese teaching for children in Houston,Texas,USA.On the basis of previous studies,the author took Second Language Acquisition Theory and MDA as the theoretical basis,took the Chinese teachers and children learners in Houston as the research objects,and comprehensively used three research methods,i.e.questionnaire survey,interview for teachers & students and classroom observation,to adjust the specific situation of Chinese MV in teaching.Research results showed that,most teachers and students in Houston held a positive attitude towards Chinese MV,and they liked and supported the usage of Chinese MV as a teaching method.However,in the teaching process,there are still some problems,such as difficulties to find the resources matching with the teaching content,too much lesson preparation and so on.According to the above situation,the author put forward suggestions: Firstly,Chinese MV should be used as an auxiliary teaching method,and teachers should always pay attention to Chinese teaching;Secondly,MV is more suitable for small class,and teacher need to think highly of the display of teaching results;Thirdly,multimodal transformation and strengthening students' knowledge internalization are also important.Compared with previous studies,the innovative point is mainly reflected in two aspects:First,the angle of analysis of issues to achieve a breakthrough.Most of the existing studies focus on Chinese songs from a macro perspective,lacking of operability for their application for Chinese teaching.From the perspective of Chinese MV,the author analyzed the application status,application effect,existing problems and development of Chinese MV for teaching,and summarized the teaching methods,teaching design and reference teaching materials of Chinese MV as auxiliary materials,which has a strong practical guiding significance for Chinese MV in teaching.This not only enriched the existing research,but also provided a new perspective for the follow-up research.Second,innovations in the content of this research.At present,there is no article about the application of Chinese MV in teaching for American children.The innovation of the research content of this paper is mainly reflected in two aspects: on the one hand,the particularity of Chinese MV,the author analyzed the teaching characteristics of Chinese MV in detail,and discussed the relationship between Chinese MV and Chinese teaching for children;on the other hand,this paper discussed the feasibility,advantages and disadvantages,shortcomings and strategies of using Chinese MV in teaching with questionnaire and interviews.The conclusion of the research can provide some implications for Chinese teachers,especially for the Chinese teachers for children of Houston.
