Shimazaki Touson is an outstanding representative in the history of Japanese naturalistic literature.Due to the characteristics of Japanese naturalistic graphic description and his rich life experience, his representative works of naturalism are also very famous private novels. The novel "home" that this paper intends to analyze is such a work with both naturalistic and private novel features.Because naturalism itself has a tradition of not paying much attention to "external description",the previous academic analysis of Touson "home" was mostly concentrated in the works, for example, there are many papers related to the analysis of characters. In addition, the most discussed is the "family system" in Meiji era of Japan, which is directly related to "family".But in this paper, the author tries to analyze "Meiji characteristics" from the perspective of social culture and history. This paper has three chapters besides the introduction and conclusion. In the introduction,we classify, sort out and analyze the previous research results, and put forward the research significance and ideas of the paper. The first chapter mainly analyzes the writer Shimazaki Touson and his work home.As for the writer,it mainly discusses his own life experience, including family background, education background and the way of literary creation. As for the works,it mainly discusses the creation background.Firstly,it analyzes the social background of Meiji, and draws the conclusion that "the old is not completely broken but the new is not completely established".Secondly,it combs the author’s personal life background in this social environment, and believes that the author’s special family experience provides him with unique and rich writing materials. In the end,the author puts the writing style on the background of naturalism literature, discusses the influence of Naturalism on the creation origin and text characteristics of home, and holds that the great sociality of the work can not be directly shown by the naturalism trend which does not pay attention to the characteristics of external description. The second chapter discusses the Meiji characteristics of the family system, which corresponds the system of the family in the work home with the system of the family in the actual social life at that time, and discusses the Meiji characteristics of the family form. The first section discusses the changes of family form in Meiji period through the changes of family form in the novel.Due to the impact of capitalism and other reasons, the big family with parent-child relationship as the core gradually disintegrates, and the small family with husband wife relationship as the core begins to appear. However, due to various obstacles, the establishment of a new home is difficult and frustrated everywhere. The second section discusses the function of family in Meiji period from the function of family in family. It analyzes the economic function and spiritual function of family from two aspects: family as production place and family as spiritual sustenance. It holds that the social development at that time gradually weakened the economic function of family, and people began to separate from family to make a living alone, but for people without independent skills to make a living For those who are deeply influenced by traditional thoughts or who are trying to make a living independently, they can’t or don’t want to go out of their families,or they are seriously frustrated after they leave. At this time, the powerful spiritual function of the traditional big family appears. The third section discusses the relationship between the family and the state in Meiji period by mining the details of the works. It highlights that the Meiji government strengthened the concept of "family state" in order to consolidate its own rule, which had an impact on the family system at that time. However, due to the limitations of this concept,it also caused some opposition. All of these are analyzed by the way of close reading of the text. The third chapter and the second chapter discuss the Meiji characteristics of the works from the perspective of family concept. From the perspective of both men and women, this paper analyzes the Meiji characteristics of their family concept with one or two representative figures, and concludes that women mostly maintain the family, while men mostly leave the family.Compared with men,the analysis of women in this chapter is more, because women are in a weak position. At that time, the marriage system and education system seemed to have certain development, which brought a certain living space for women. In fact, most of them just stay in the written regulations or another form of unfairness.
